Just got that notice too, a 29% increase for me along with a higher deductible.

Used to have the TX Risk Pool...it was not ideal, but compared to what I have now, it was AWESOME! Seriously. :tiphat:

Of course it was a lie. That should be abundantly clear for at least two reasons: 1) Gruber's several videos clearly stating they hid the truth to get the legislation passed; and 2) the fact that Obama is a pathological liar. I don't think he's ever spoken the truth about anything. Even the Washington Post is calling out his lies on immigration. The number one narcissist knew exactly what he was doing and he knew if he told the truth the legislation would never pass. And "lie" doesn't imply an intentional falsehood, it is an intentional falsehood. Obama is a liar, possibly the most aggressive and persistent liar that's ever been president.

The system we had was broke and needed to be fixed. The trouble getting individuals with preexisting conditions covered was near impossible. The number percentage of people that do not have what was considered a disqualifying preexisting condition was dwindling rapidly. On the other hand, fixing the financing/insurance part without adequately addressing the skyrocketing cost of health care is like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound.
He's right, it WAS designed from the beginning to fail, because "single payer" (actually, it's 330 million payer), was always their goal........an expansion of federal government to become the sole provider of medical care, on the British model.

I like that quote from Proverbs, on page one of this thread.

Im not defending any players. There are many villains - but the biggest predator in this jungle is the Trial Lawyers. They feed on business, healthcare & insurance and with the proceeds, buy the government that best suits its current needs. (scrutinize political donations)

All insurance premiums & healthcare costs would be greatly reduced if the government enacted tort reform, no-fault, and realistic damage caps - but this would put a big bite on the trial lawyers. (check out how many in congress are lawyers)

Instead of obamacare the gov should have enacted the above mentioned & allowed the purchase of health insurance across state lines; with premiums tailored to each state's regulations & coverage - but this competition would have put a big bite on the insurance industry.

Obamacare was not intended to address a need, but generate revenue for a few. Our laws are not meant for the good of the citizens, but rather the special interest groups.

By the way, another Jonny Grubby video emerged of him insulting Vermonters...... and the Vermont Governor broke the state's $400,000 contract with him.

As to Obama being a liar...... different subject, but it illustrates the point.....

A year ago, he very specifically told an interviewer on the subject of an EO to expand amnesty for illegal aliens that he was NOT an emperor, and that he did not have that power. In a subsequent speech to a crowd who urged him to do exactly that, he said, and I quote, "As much as I want to, that is not how our system works".

So today, as Obama is about to announce his EO expansion of amnesty, an ABC reporter actually confronts Obama's press flack about the inconsistency. Apparently, now that the elections are behind us and he will be out of office in 2 years, he has changed his position, and he believes that he can do anything he wants by EO.

I'm really amazed that calls for impeachment haven't been seriously raised. There's been rumblings, but only rumblings.

Back to Obamacare.

How many of you are simply going to without health insurance and pay for what you need as it arises?

I am interested in this also.
The fee in 2015

If you don’t have coverage in 2015, you’ll pay the higher of these two amounts:

2% of your yearly household income. (Only the amount of income above the tax filing threshold, about $10,000 for an individual, is used to calculate the penalty.) The maximum penalty is the national average premium for a bronze plan.

$325 per person for the year ($162.50 per child under 18). The maximum penalty per family using this method is $975.

mojo84,

I know a number of folks who are going to go "bare".

They cannot afford the cost of Obamacare.

Plus, they're willing to pay the much lower cost of a fine/tax/ whatever you care to call it.

However, given the track record of Obamacare inefficiency, it'll be interesting to see if they'll have an effective method to collect said fine/tax...

I too am aware of some that are considering it. The fine can be much less than what it would cost for insurance if they do not have a major illness or need surgery.

I have some family members that always thought health insurance was a ripoff. They finally decided to go ahead and purchased health insurance with a high deductible. Three years later, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Fifteen months and over $600,000 in medical bills later, she died. Her husband knows it paid off but he still won't admit it out loud.

As far as the affordability, I understand that and can appreciate people's concerns. However, I just want them to make an informed decision and understand the potential consequences of going bare. I would encourage them to consider the subsidy if they qualify. Principally I am against the subsidy. However, it is the system that has been forced upon us and believe we have to do what is best for ourselves and families within the system we have at this time. Would rather see people consider not rolling the big dice and put more pressure on our representatives to reform our healthcare system in order to reduce costs so the insurance costs can be adjusted accordingly.

On the other hand, I consider myself a man of principle and am willing to die for certain principles. Just not sure this one falls in that category.

Nonetheless, each person will need to make the decision they believe is right for them and I'll respect whatever they decide.

mojo84,

I agree it's a big gamble.

A few years back I had a hospital bill for roughly $8500.

It was an emergency.

I had health insurance.

My deductible of $250.00 and the insurance paid the hospital $500.00.

Yes, that's right the hospital was A-OK with a grand total of $750.00 for an $8500. bill.

What's wrong with that picture?

It tells me, the bill can be negotiated...
