Those are the reasons I could think of right off the top of my head. I like shooting all my guns, long guns and handguns. But when I'm shooting my bolt rifles, I feel like I'm doing something special.

TAM - your list is quite exhaustive. I was trying to add something to your list, but couldn't think of anything.

My only thought was about a REAL survival situation. I don't think that the ability to shoot at 200+ yards is a real concern.

At least not for a city boy like me. I am not the least bit concerned.

BTW, I have three Remington 700s [.308 Win and 2 X .222 Rem] and and a .22LR Mossberg Model 144 Match Grade bolt action.

I'll throw one of mine in here. Honest to goodness 1945 m91/30 sniper.

Right, but is it predicable, reliable and repeatable? I have a friend who claims to shoot his M1 out past 1000 yds regularly, but (I believe) it to be at least a 24" bbl and I think he runs 175 gr (hand?) loads. Also just don't know if he is simply ringing steel or actually achieving some sort of consistent MOA groupings. Thanks!

I am curious too. My Remington has a 1:10 twist, and the SCAR a slower 1:12 twist. I have put 10 rounds of 168 grain match into 3/4" at 100 yards with the SCAR, but that was from a Lead Sled in the BPS rifle tube. I have not fired it past 200 yards, and wasn't really trying for tiny groups when I shot it at that distance. I have two friends who also have SCAR 17 rifles who were both able to ding 1 MOA plates at 800 yards at ETTS with theirs - shooting plain old 147 and 150 grain ball. Theoretically, I should be able to do so also, but I don't know how well I'll actually do yet. There's a big difference between shooting from a stable rifle rest in a tube, with no wind or other distractions, and shooting from the prone on a shooting mat, outdoors, on a windy rifle range.....

....but I'm game to try.

O I forgot about the mosin I had, never fired it though. That MVP in tan looks sweet but I think I need more 1911s. They keep breaking so I just shoot a diff one while it's being repaired till it breaks.. I need enough 1911s to be able to shoot when I want while the rest are broken.

I like bolt guns because it forces me to slow down and not shoot through a magazine fast. Plus I find it more comfortable then a semi auto rifle.

I like bolt guns cause they are typically light weight inexpencive yet heavy duty use serious ammunition.. They are designed for results with every shot. A simple gun for a simple me..

I just wish I could find ammo and Mags as cheap as that for the .225 AR15.

It has polygonal rifling......

My Pops used to load for .225 Winchester, think it was a .224 50 grn bullet though.
