If I don't recognize the number and am not expecting a call from someone that could be coming from a number I don't recognize I'll answer "Luigi's pizzeria".

Play Stupid Games - Win Stupid Prizes!

Can this hackneyed bit of witlessness be given a quiet death?

Phone etiquette: If you're the caller, it's up to you to immediately identify yourself, not demand the name of the person being called.

Never use the word 'yes' on the phone unless you know the the person calling. There was a scam going around in businesses a while back where the business would get a call. The caller would ask something like, "are you open?" Of course, you answer, "yes". They would then send you a toner cartridge to a printer you don't have and send a bill to you for $400. When you try to tell them you didn't order and aren't going to pay, they play a recording of you saying, "yes." They won in court when the person called identified their voice saying yes...lol.

That sounds like an urban legend.

"hate".... It seems, more and more, that if one disagrees with someone or their agenda, one is pronounced to be guilty of "hate". The words "hate" and "disagreement" are not automatically synonymous.

I feel the same way. When someone calls me and asks "Whos this?" I immediately hang up on them.

:iagree: Right on target Oldgringo.
By the same/similar token, "racist" is another word frequently misused.

"Phobic"

If you have an opposing opinion, you're labeled "Phobic".

If directed at you, this bit of verbal strong arm is supposed to intimidate you into complying with what ever is on the table...

Asking a sarcastic question followed by the word "much".

Employing the word "much" after asking such a question doesn't make you sound clever, it makes you sound petty...

"Are you still working on that?"

Is the food here so bad that eating it is considered work, not pleasure?

hillfighter,

Of course, I'm often irritated, it's part of my job as a practicing curmudgeon.

Now, get off my lawn!
