Basically, calling attention to himself is counter productive to keeping a low profile, pretty much what you don't want to do. "Just out for a ride" or "sightseeing" or Seeing the country" would have been an acceptable reply. How does he know the cop wouldn't have reacted differently if he had strong opinions about the verdict?
When GZ volunteered that information he was risking that the cop would do exactly what he was suspected of doing, sharing that information with others. I don't think there is any outrageous breach of privacy.

Yep. I got a ticket on July 3 just as you come into Alvarado. The speed limit had dropped from 60 to 45 and I never saw the sign. When the officer approached I did everything right (hands in plain sight, DL/CHL in hand, etc). He was very professional and quick but I did indeed get a ticket. I will say that he wrote the ticket for 55 in a 45, rather than 62 in a 45. So I guess you could say that I did get a small break.

You may disagree with what he said, rather than what you think
he should have said, but my point was that I don't believe he ,"went a little out of the way to tell the cop he was a face on TV." I think his point was that I am GZ and there are people who are looking for me, and I don't want to advertise where I am going, believing the officer would understand. Perhaps doing it the way you suggested is better, but I still don't think he went
out of his way to call attention to his name for any other purpose. Just MHO.

I don't mean to be assessing GZ's reasoning. At this point he is a free man and can handle his life any way he sees fit, it's not up to you or me. My interpretation is that he was fine with being identified, yours is that he exposed his identity in order to protect it. So, who knows how the cop interpreted it? Pretty wide scope if you ask me. At this point, I can't see anything that the cop did as wrong.

He's been found not guilty and has the same rights as you and I. If the media would leave him alone he might have a chance at a more normal life. Except for the media part I think he would make a good neighbor.

Why should he? With very little effort on his part it could be just as much his state as it is yours.

BTW, EEllis, I don't think the LEO who stopped him committed any great crime in texting the stop to his buddies, but I do think it is pretty cheesy.......
All this based on some noises heard over a bad video? Whatever, the bashing over unknown facts that people are just positive of is getting a bit much for me.
You must not have an smartphone with an onboard camera. That was
clearly a cellphone camera shutter, and
clearly text typing noises. There was no mistaking those noises.
So you want a cookie? I know what it sounded like, I know what you assume, I don't believe the bashing over
assumed facts is any better.
There is a BIG difference between "bashing," and the word "cheesy" that I used when I stated (above) that I didn't think that the LEO had "committed any great crime in texting the stop to his buddies....."

I'll guarantee you I wouldn't.
Ditto......although if I ever ran into him face to face, I'd shake his hand and tell him that I hope people begin to respect his privacy. And I'd hand him my business card, which has my home address on it, and tell him if he's ever in the area to give me a call and come over, and I'll pour him a cup of coffee. I'll bet he'd appreciate someone just being nice to him instead of what he's been getting......
Seems to me he received a warning vs. speeding ticket. That was somebody being nice to him.

Put a few dents in the truck and get farm plates and he would blend right in around here.
Welcome to Texas, George.

Not guilty does not mean either innocent nor smart.
He's no hero. At best he broke some basic derp derp rules to live by that lead to the death of a human being and cost him what a million dollars?
