#1> Rodeo Goat- Hot Bastard. Go here with friends and you can all order different burgers and they will gladly quarter them so that you can try a little bit of everything.

#> Fred's Texas- Diablo Burger. Fred's is quite possibly the most "messed with" burger joint in DFW. The 7th street corridor grew around them and they have refused to move. The city's has poked at them and the TABC even made them take down a sign that said "Cold (donkey) Beer." They cited the TABC statute that you may not use adjectives before outdoor advertisements for Beer as this might entice people to come in...which I think is the point.

Also worth a mention is Jakes, which is horrible. Went there once and let them know that they should head back to Dallas ASAP.

I'm easy to please when it comes burgers.

Paying over the top prices for a "gourmet burger" isn't something I'm willing to do.

I do enjoy upscale fine dining, but a burger is still a burger by any other name.

I did try a Mooyah hamburger as it was free.

It was quite possibly the vilest thing I've ever partially eaten and I liked the food in the Army, my high school and college cafeterias.

When it comes to food I'm not at all picky. Heck, I've eaten cold Campbell soup out of a can with a plastic spoon, but Mooyah burger?

Never, never again. Blech!

Yeah, Mel's can get kinda crazy, especially in peak times. Some of the best chicken-fried-steak and chicken-fried-chicken I have eaten as well. Worth the trouble, imo. Sorry to hear about your Red Robin experience. It's one of the wife's favorites, so I get dragged there a lot. Never any negative experiences.

Worth the trouble, but not when you have to wait in the heat with a 3 year old.

Mel's is excellent, an original old time burger, but the wait/crowd/noise is just to much to put up with. Goodson's Café on the pkwy. has great burgers! If you're not in the mood for burgers, a bigger than the plate chicken fried steak with the fries piled up in the middle doused with gravy......

Lately I'm liking Village Burger. Ye Olde Butcher Shop is pretty good too, and not an often mentioned choice (don't think that means it won't be packed).

dfw area has lots and lots of good to great burgers. my top two:

Kenny's Burger Joint at Legacy/121 - sit down place with a very friendly waitstaff and the whole bit, but burgers are between $6-8. Every one of 'em I've tried are greatness. Good fries, shakes, etc. Kenny is one of the nicest, most friendly owners I've ever come in contact with. He's got a steakhouse in Addison and a smoke house at the shops at legacy. The steakhouse is great, but I haven't made it to his bbq place yet.

Off Site Kitchen at Wycliff/Irving Blvd - Green Chile Bacon burger is perfection. Beef is ground on site, local bakery provides the buns, fries are pretty good. Burgers aren't excessively large like a lot of places, but ounce for ounce they're juicy tasty deliciousness on a bun. Open from 10:30-3:30, don't even try to go between 11:30-2, unless you have time to wait in the long line. Very limited indoor seating, with 10 or so picnic benches out on the covered patio. Ammo boxes serve as a tip jar and collection jar for wounded warriors, so there's that going for them as well.

There's nothing wrong with the smashburgers/twisted roots/5guys/etc of the world, but these two are my favorite by far. I didn't see Maple & Motor listed yet - they've got a good thing going with their burgers and such.

Also, Sparkle’s…..and they’re only $5.00 or less. You won’t believe it until you try it. However, you can’t really eat there at the location.
