I thought that may be where you are going with that. Carrying a gun is not a protected class or condition when it comes to entering a business on private property. A person's right to carry doesn't trump a private property owner's right to have conditions customers and visitors must agree to abide by if they want to enter.

Whether you agree or not, that's the law. We've discussed this many times in here. It is not an appropriate comparison to compare a physical disability, race, color, creed or nationality with carrying a gun on private property of others.

I would disagree. First, no one chooses their race or nationality, so that is not a fair comparison. We choose to be armed. I personally do NOT give my money to any business that prohibits me from carrying. That being said, would you not agree they have rights as property owners to decide what you can bring on their property?

As a sworn Texas peace officer and a CHL holder I will say this, we are never "off duty" and we are required to get involved when a crime is being committed. Yeah I know, the SCOTUS says we have no obligation to protected the public and all that jive. If you believe that then do us all brothers on blue a favor and stay out of law enforcement. I took a oath to protect the public both on and off duty in front of a judge and my sheriff who I represent. If you have the attitude of I don't have the obligation to protect the public because the supreme Court said so, then good luck getting a badge.

The NFL had the same policy when Jerry world opened up. Thanks to the Texas Legislature, that was changed.

Whenever I carry I do not drink a drop of alcohol. If I wanna have a drink, I'll go disarm.

I had a CHL before I was a LEO. I still keep it for gun purchases, it only $25 for 5yrs to keep it valid.

Yes I can walk past 30.06 and carry anywhere in Texas except a federal building. Under the LEO safe act I can carry anywhere in the US with certain restrictions.

If I drink outside of my home which is a rare occasion I never carry. If something does happen I will do what I can to intervene unarmed. My department requires us to carry off duty and get involved if any criminal activity is taking place especially in my county.

If I was in this deputy's position I would have never mentioned I was armed or a LEO. Does the House of Blues perform wand checks or pay downs?

I am not asking to be confrontational, but I am curious. Does this allow you to ignore the property owner's request of not being armed in their establishment while off duty? I get that you can walk past a 30.06 (which I do find frustrating to be honest), but if they explicitly state you have to be unarmed you can lie and walk right in?

So if you're outside of your home drinking, you're going to involve yourself in a situation? Sounds like a defense lawyers dream to me.

Would I lie and walk in? No. I would not give them any business. If they hired off duty officers as security I would inform that department and I'm sure they would refuse to provide security to that business. We stand behind our own and if they don't let off duty officers carry then being in uniform does not matter and no department will let their officers wear the uniform unarmed.

As far as I getting involved, that would
depend on the totality of the circumstances.

Hold on a second there, partner. That's not at all what you said. You said you wouldnt tell them you were a cop or armed, then asked if they were wanding. That's a fair cry from "I would not give them any business."

As far as you killing an off duty job detail because they treat off duty cops the same as citizens? That's a classy statement right there. I'm sure that looking down your nose at non-cops is a great career move.
