self-inflicted gunshot to chest is not unheard of for suicide.

Sadly, I know of one person connected to my life who has committed suicide and this was the method.

I'd guess that most gun suicides go the way that it is portrayed in the pop culture. Thus, if a person commits suicide by shooting themselves in the chest or neck or spine or elsewhere, it's simpler to just call it suicide by gunshot and allow people to assume gunshot to the head.

Morbid and sad topic. Which is why it's easier to just leave it up to the imagination than actually discuss in detail.
