Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a gun rights case. The fact that they happened to seize guns is incidental to the search of the home for anything under the "community caretaking" clause used to justify searches of automobiles. Even much more important, though not being reported currently in the media, is a part I am not sure SCOTUS will review. How much are cops allowed to lie to suspects/people? In this case, the man declined any searches or seizures. The cops lied and told his wife that he had consented to the search, so she gave her consent. The original ruling was that cops are allowed to lie.

I understand that cops must be allowed to lie in cases. But lying about having consent to get consent from another person is a little to far for me to accept. I do not know if SCOTUS is even reviewing this part of the case since the cops are now claiming the search was community caretaking instead of consent.
