That seems to be their standard response. I have lived and worked in the same county for 15 years, with a perfectly clean record, so
it should not take this long to check me out.

The background check is completed. We are on the final step of processing your application. Please allow a little longer.

Simone,

I have been told ,several times, that all my background checks have been done and all DPS was waiting on was my fingerprints.

SO WHY ARE WE STILL WAITING ON "COMPLETTION OF THE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION."
74 days have gone by. If they don't have my background by now, they never will.

This is the response I get from DPS. :headscratch :headscratch :headscratch

Eight weeks to the day since I dropped my renewal off in person at DPS HQ . . . so I sent a polite inquiry.

The response:

At this time we are awaiting the completion of the background investigation. We do not have an estimate for when this will be complete. Thank you for your continued patience.

NICS checks take a matter of minutes. If you're trying to finance a car or something, a credit check is also done quickly. WHY do background checks for a renewal take so long?!?! :waiting:

Maybe they're actually trying to get the April applications done?

60 days have passed since DPS received my CHL renewal documents. Still "processing application." So much for the statutory 45-day turnaround. :rules:

My current license expires just under 30 days from now. I'll see what happens first: the issuance of my new license or the expiration of the old one. :waiting:

Well, officially on day 60, so I guess i can start complaining too. :rules:

I'm retired from the military and held a top secret clearance. It didn't take this long to get that clearance, and it certainly didn't take this long to load us up on a plane to go to Iraq. :grumble

Just what does that mean?

That message means we are on the last step of processing before the license is issued and mailed.

I hope this LAST STEP does not take another 85 days.

DPS received my application July 21. I went online yesterday to request a PIN, and then noted the obligatory "Processing Application" status.

Class: June 28th
Mailed Paperwork: July 5th
Received at DPS: July 8th
Received PIN: August 12th

So I'm now on Day 78 and still "Processing Application", but I didn't expect to have anything until at least the first couple weeks of October anyway.

Unfortunately, DPS did enter into a sole source contract with IBT for the F.A.S.T. locations and although the equipment is superior there is always an operator involved. Most of the F.A.S.T. locations are not staffed with experienced fingerprinters who can address fingerprint quality issues on site. They just roll them and send them. An experienced fingerprinter can often times get better results with good old printers ink. I have had to reprint many persons who were printed at police stations, sheriff's offices and instructors. Rejects are part of the business but they can be avoided if you know what you are doing.

When fingerprints are rejected for the third time- a name check only is conducted. In your case, your military service and and prior security clearances may have caused a slight delay as there are more places to check. DPS has been running about 5 weeks to process the fingerprints.

From reading your post it appears that Mr Pierce is handling your paperwork and he has never steered me wrong yet.

Good luck,
David

I went to the HPD headquarters downtown for my new set and if I remember correctly I did mention to them that this set would be for my CHL license so clarity is of the utmost importance. They did a good job because they went through just fine.
