"A curse on both your houses!"

Besides, hind sight is 20/20 I suppose...

BTW, are we ALL getting prepared for the upcoming hurricane season???

I'm basically going to keep the gas tank full...I'll leave the keys with anygun, Charles or seamustx if ya'll want a place close enough, yet far enough from the surge to say you hunkered down like Ed Emmitt would say...

We be buggin'...

tfrazier wrote:It's interesting how many people like to bash the LEO's and play street lawyer. I can't count the number of times I had to answer to the brass after someone called them to complain that I didn't arrest or cite someone for cursing in public. Typically, I did what the Officer (yes, Fire Marshals are Peace Officers in the State of Texas) did and told them they were committing an offense and needed to watch their language.

If they complied, I made that the end of it. If they didn't, they went to jail.

Meanwhile, some bystander would call in and complain. Occasionally I'd get one citizen complaining because I didn't take the actor to jail and simultaneously another citizen complaining that I was throwing my weight around and violating someone's right to free speech. I'm not a peace officer any more, but if someone pops off with a bunch of foul language in wife front of my in public I'm going to say something to them about it.

And in the state of Texas, a citizen has the same arrest powers as a police officer. The big difference is it won't start raining police if you try ters and start loo use those arrest powsing the fight...or if you're wrong and it turns into false arrest, in which case you go to jail.

Too many people expect the law to do everything for them and refuse to 'man up' or shut up themselves. When officers do their job someone is always ready to second guess and criticize. Those guys get enough grief from their IA departments and the FBI...believe me, the bad apples are usually weeded out sooner than later and the system is heavily weighted against the officers from the get-go every time a complaint is lodged.

Shouldn't we give them a break once in a while and leave it up to the internal investigation? I'd really like this forum to be overwhelmingly pro-LEO, and I hate the glimmer of cop-bashing I see in some threads...those guys aren't the ones who write the laws, they're the ones sworn to uphold them and protect us.
I can't understand why some folks feel it is wrong to hold LEO accountable when they screw up. Bashing an LEO is not a bad thing when the LEO is a jerk, It is not against the law in the state of Texas to curse. I am sorry you don't like cursing. I don't like stinky people but it isn't against the law to pass gas either. Nothing happened to this assistant fire Marshal, but this woman spent time in jail, maybe paid bail. We don't need language police. I am sorry that you don't think this language cop deserves a lambasting.

Actually that is not true...I just saw another discussion about that today...Don't quote me chapter and verse, but if I passed gas and ran everyone off, I could be charged with disturbing the peace or something similar...

Just funnin', not trying to hack you off... ;-)

If the storm surge is so bad you have to go to New Mexico to get away from it, we are in BIG trouble in Dallas. 'Lord, what's a cubit??'

The way that Ike hit Houston, the next hurricane forecast is going to cause a repeat of the Rita evacuation debacle in 2005. I want to be at least 500 miles away when that happens.

I bet I could find a dozen people who think the words "President Obama" are more offensive than any four letter word ever invented. :biggrinjester:

Actually, a man was charged with assaulting a police officer (battery?) after passing gas and waving it in the officer's direction.

It was later dropped:

Reminds me of Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail...

Does anyone still doubt that annoying a police officer is a chargeable offense?

I'm not saying it should or shouldn't be. It just is.

Almost everyone cusses, but discretion in it's use goes a long way.

The assertion regarding swearing and a deficient vocabulary is nonsense.

High quality cussing is a fine hobby when the circumstances are appropriate.

Darn tootin!
