It's a short, lively read that gets you thinking about the right things.

I remembered seeing a long YouTube interview with Clay Martin shortly after the book came out. And I remembered "long" correctly: an hour and a half. But I'm gonna go back and listen to some of it and probably buy the book. Thanks for the tip.

Clay Martin recommends training with the best competitive and military shooters, paying whatever it costs to do so.

The first person on his list was Len Baxley at TDSA. I'll have to chat with Len to see if he knows he's a top pick.

I’ve recently read that book, and two others. I follow Martin on Twitter. He has a lot of good points, one of which is don’t get distracted by Gucci gear. For instance, he says that for the average armed citizen, something like a PSA AR and 1000 rounds of ammo is plenty good enough. I’m in the blessed position of having nicer rifles than that, and a LOT more ammo than that, but the reality is that if I’m in a firefight that burns through large quantities of ammo, I did something wrong.

I honestly think that I could reduce my firearms inventory to one good rifle, one good shotgun, one good pistol, some form of .22, have 1000 rounds for each, and I'd be more than well enough armed for any contingency. Food, water, and other sustenance items will likely be a lot more important.

Martin basically provides the cliffs notes version of what John Mosby published.

I try to keep at least 1000 for each firearm I have. The exception right now is my 12ga. And I need to rectify that situation. I've considered down sizing the calibers I own, but my collection is pretty much curated now to Items I like and have use for. Each has a purpose and does it well.
I could probably get rid of the 300WM rifles because they 270 does everything I need here in Texas. But I have dreams of a nice Elk hunt in Utah in the future. I probably don't need 380,9,40, 357 and 45... But for different clothing and different situations they are all excellent for their purpose. And the 9 and 45 are just pure pieces of art. Some rifles I have duplicates of, but I have more than one kid, and gaining grand kids now. I think I need to be adding more to make sure I get enough for them all to be able to enjoy what I have.

It was interesting that for pistols Clay recommended "At the time of this writing, the only two options to consider in this class are the SIG P365 and the Springfield Armory Hellcat...They conceal easy, have a very high capacity for their size and shoot like a bigger gun. If I had to have a single do everything pistol I would be very happy to have either of those."

Clay published before the G43X with aftermarket 15rd magazine and Shield Plus came around. I shot Len's G43X and it was very nice.

My M&P Shield has a TARAN mag extension which I believe puts it in the same class as well (10+1 capacity, excellent shootability).

I click on the link to buy the book at Amazon....tells me I bought it over 3 years ago...must be in my stack of bought, not read books somewhere.
