AAAAAARGH Why Is It Taking So Long?

The DPS confirmed today they received my app August 27th, but they are still doing my background check. Why oh why is it taking them so long? 
Who knows? It's like the weather.
It occurs to me that many people start jobs related to education this time of year, and maybe there's a glut of background checks.
