Looks like Maldonado, who did the shooting was convicted but is going to get off easy. Article says he could get 100+ years. Which means with parole and good time he might be out in 11 years<I really don't know but similar things have happened before>. When Maldonado gets out he'll have the opportunity to steal some more guns and do it all over again...

While McKown is still paralyzed and six other innocent victims still have scars from being shot.

It's a miracle no one was killed. Seems to me like Maldonado deserves life in prison without the chance of parole or a death sentence.

A Pierce County jury decided almost immediately that Dominick S. Maldonado had no defense for opening fire with two guns at the Tacoma Mall on Nov. 20, 2005, wounding seven people, kidnapping four and frightening thousands more.

Maldonado was guilty, not mentally disturbed as a defense expert asserted during trial.

Of what, exactly, took some time to figure out.

Jurors made up their minds Tuesday, the fourth day of their deliberations. They found Maldonado guilty as charged on 12 counts and guilty of lesser crimes on three more, including the shooting of Tacoma comedian Dan McKown.

All the jurors believed Maldonado intended to kill McKown when he leveled an assault rifle at the comedian and opened fire. McKown, who was carrying a pistol that day, had confronted Maldonado and told him to drop his weapons after the shooting started.

An example of why issuing a warning is very often a bad idea. It is quite possible that if McKown had simply aimed and fired, Maldonado might have been stopped on the spot.

If someone has a semi-auto rifle and is shooting up a mall, and you get the drop on him with a pistol, it's time to shoot right then and there.

Taxpayers will have to pay the bills to keep this baby alive for the rest of his life. Free food , lodging and TV time x so so years.

Yea, but them the jury would have said he panicked and killed the poor distraunt person and the liberals would have called him a vigilante.

Like I told my wife, __________________ There is no talking or warning." She is deadly accurate BTW.

If the guy has opened fire then it is not a threat but an immediate danger to life and limb. McKown should have dropped him...at least that would have simplified the sentence. I bet he will regret the decision not to shoot, the rest of his days.

Dominick Maldonado, who was serving a 163-year prison sentence in Washington, attempted to escape yesterday. Guards fatally shot another inmate involved in the escape attempt.

She was out of prison and living in the Ft. Worth area last I heard.
