Something bothers me about this...

Actually a couple of things...

First off, this is a sad incident for the officers family and co-workers...
Second, as stated in another forums commentary...
"We are at war, and we are losing..."
Personally not knowing what the exact circumstances were, getting off 4 shots and not hitting the suspect before the firearm jammed is a lesson to be learned...
Think about if you only got "one chance", to get "one shot" off...
Charles knows what I said yesterday...How prophetic was that huh???
The crass-ness of the suspect is undoubtably the most horrific thing portrayed...
After yesterdays personal performance, and todays story...I'm going to consentrate, and adjust slightly my engagement philosophy...

Yes stevie d 64, I too changed some things a few years ago. Not because of a jam but because of physical condition. I am 55, one knee completely worthless, the other not very good. I can't move & shoot as taught by most schools of thought. As I draw I practice going to my right knee (the best of the worst) leaving my left leg in front of me at a 90 degree bend. that is all I can get back up with. I will count on most BG's shooting high due to adrenal rush. I will make my 1st shots well aimed as possible. Hope I never have to find out if I can be that deliberate while getting shot at.

How can one go about setting up and practicing jam drills? Is there a way to do this with snap caps or something?
I really want to take a tactical pistol course but dont have the $ for a TR class so I just read on the internet about what to do and train as I can.

Charles and Marc are going to have that Tactical "home defense" class at PSC, the one that had to be rescheduled because of Hurricane Rita...
I believe its still on the second Saturday in November...
You ought to try to come down for that class though...I think its still $50

Very sad for the family.
But now, for the crass part: had this officer never trained on immediate action drills? One FTF left him raising his hands to his executioner?
I don't pretend to have a magic eye on this situation, so it's possible that he was stuck in a bad situation with a jammed weapon and no time to work things out. But, I suspect that his firearms training had always been of the draw-aim-fire variety, and never of the "oh _______!" variety.
Good reminder: it's not always who can win the match; sometimes, it's just about who has and can use his gun.

I was incorrect...
The class at PSC is on the 19th of November...
And its an NRA course, with probably a few special perks from the instructors...

Is this something anyone can take or do you have to be a member to take this class? I'm interested.

You don't have to be a PSC member to take the class. Send me or Marc (Tracoun) a PM if you want to come. If your mom wants to come, let me know and I'll try to schedule some time with her before the class and get her to a point where the PPH class will be beneficial.

There are ways to practice, as Charles has shown me. The biggest obstacle is MAKING YOURSELF DO IT, because it is definitely not as much fun as seeing holes appear in the target. But it only takes a bit of practice to see your skill start to improve
