Clyde Buchanan said he shot through his home window when an intruder tried to break inside. Some homeowners have taken the law into their own hands.
In the last couple of days, two people have shot burglars they said were trying to get into their homes.
The first incident happened Saturday morning in Grand Prairie. A homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar in the 2800 block of Lake Park Drive.
It happened again Sunday night in Dallas when Clyde Buchanan said he shot an intruder in the 2800 block of Arizona Avenue.
"So, I told him stop man," Buchanan said he told the alleged intruder. "Get off my property, I have a gun."
But, Buchanan said the man didn't heed his verbal warnings.
"I told him I had a weapon, leave my premises," he said. "But he wouldn't. He kept pursuing [and] trying to get in, so I shot him."
A Vietnam veteran, Buchanan said he suffers from high blood pressure, Hepatitis C., and struggles to pay his bills. Also, he said in the six months he has lived in the neighborhood his home has been broken into several times.
They have taken heaters, televisions, all that stuff and an electric heater," he said.
Buchanan said in the latest attempted break in, a man was trying to come through a window. He said he was afraid, and had to protect himself when the alleged intruder didn't stop after several warnings
"Somebody trying to break into your house at one, two or three o'clock in the morning, what would you do?" he said.
Buchanan said he is tired of being victimized, and refuses to let the bad guys win.
"I am not going to leave," he said. "They are not going to run me off." "
