Ok I am considering getting my CHL. I have tried searching for some info but guess I am not doing this right. Is there a sticky somepleac that list all the places you can and cannot carry?

Like here are some of my questions:

1. You can carry in church, amusement park (like SIX FLAGS), and a hospital unless they post 30.06 right?

2. An employer can prohibit employees from carrying in the work place even if they employer does not post 30.06? A violation would be cause for arrest or termination...or both?

3. What laws changed or were added Sept 1st?

Sorry I am new to this but being a single female want to get a CHL and just trying to get some information. Thank you!

Based on the CHL class, that's my understanding of the current situation.

I believe Texas is an "at will" State and they can terminate your employment for any number of reasons. You may be arrested if you're still there when the cops arrive. Remember that verbal notification does not have to include everything required in the long-winded written notice; If your boss or HR verbally says "no guns allowed" that appears to be sufficient.

Disclaimer: IANAL (and I don't play one on TV.)

Yes, but hospitals are still one place you have to be careful. If it is a a teaching hospital you could get in trouble. If it has a school in its name You might wish to leave the gun behind. I live near UTMB University of Texas Medical Branch. I won't carry in the main buildings. I think its legal, but I don't want to be a test case.

They can fire you at any time for almost anything. If they have a clear no gun policy. If you have ever been presented with written material with the 30.06 wording on it. or personally been told not to bring a gun in with you and they can prove it. you could be prosecuted.

its a bunch. The highlites are.

Price breaks for veterans on license fees.

"Stand your ground" or "Castle doctrine" removes the requirement to retreat under certain conditions and makes it more difficult to sue in a defencive shooting.

Allows for concealled cary in ones Automobile. There are some "I gotchya's" with this one. But folks without felonies can carry concealled in their cars without having to prove that they are "traveling"

Just remember, any federal gun free zone can get you busted if you have a gun in your car without a CHL.

In the pdf file linked to above Section 46.03 decsribes 5 locations that were prohibited prior to 46.035 adding 7 more locations in 1997. In classes, I've referred to 'em for years as "The Dirty Dozen". But 4 of the locations came off the list (churches, hospitals, amusement parks, public meetings) in 1997 - unless they give "effective notice" - typically via 30.06 signs.

FWIW, if it happens to fit, I'm building a semi-rare little week night class for October 22, 23 and 25. And got an "all dayer" on Nov. 3, where I think at least one other single gal plus a couple of married ladies doing the "Home Study +P" option at http://www.dentoncountysports.com.

Welcome to the forum, btw. A lot to be gleaned here.
