I'm finally applying for my CHL; but I received a reckless driving citation in Virginia Beach, VA, that occured in 11/97 and was disposed in early 1998. All of the fines and court costs were paid. FWIW, or if it matters, it's classified as a misdemeanor in VA.

Also, am I expected to get dispositions for 9-10 year old speeding tickets (paid) as well?

I would try and get a copy of the disposition. I had a DWI when I was in 'A' school in Millington Tenn. in 1981. It was reduced to reckless driving. I contacted the county clerks office and they found the original records and sent me a certified copy of the disposition. You shouldn't have any trouble getting something from VA. Beach. The more info you can provide DPS the less chance of being delayed while you try to get something they need.

DPS wants certified dispositions of misdemeanor cases. They may accept other documentation, but it will require multiple back-and-forth mailings or faxes.

You don't need to put traffic tickets on your application or produce documentation for them. The instructions for the application say "any offense for which you were taking into custody by a law enforcement agency and fingerprinted, or any offense for which you were charged under an information or indictment."

That's why I'm confused, in the VA incident I was given a traffic ticket and then sent on my way. I was never taken into custody or fingerprinted. I thought most trafffic tickets were misdemeanors.

In that case, you don't need to put the incident on your application.

Reckless driving is an odd kind of misdemeanor in Texas. It is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, whereas most traffic offenses are punishable only by a fine.
