This is just so sad.

I think a weapon within reach would have been invaluable.

Well, I did not click the link because just reading the title of this thread made me feel sick to my stomach and get a surge of angry emotions.
I trust that if that link directs folks to content that's not appropriate for this forum that you will take it upon yourself to remove it.

Thanks

I am very pleased that the woman survived the attack and that the police got there in time to catch the BG. I wish the woman had been armed! Cast or no I would have had a weapon ready.

That is very sad, but sad doesn't even begin to describe the emotions. Yet another reason to carry 24/7, even when lying on the couch with nothing to do.

(The link is safe, it pops up a CourtTV documentary of the actual 911 phone call and police radio chatter. The 911 tape is frightening, though, because of the victims panic.)

Wow! That was hard to watch. The video is a recreation but the audio is the actual 911 call with the police radio traffic added on. They did get there in time to catch the guy. The victim is alive and is narrating parts of the video.

The police cannot protect you in your home. If goblins break in upon you the police should be called - as soon as you get around to it - in order to write out reports and clean up the mess. But the goblins are your problem. Bear that always in mind.

That video has been floating around for a while. We use it in CHL classes from time to time, especially the ladies only. It IS hard to watch, but it gets your attention. So much can happen in the span of 30 seconds to a minute. Calling 911 is NOT a solution. As much as I respect law enforcement, they can't be everywhere at once. Calling for help is but one tool in your self-defense arsenal, and far from the most effective.

True-story videos such as this illustrate the need for Americans to not only arm themselves, but to obtain training in self-defense with and without their handgun. Don't expect to pull some Rambo-like miracle out of your backside. As someone more knowledgeable than I once said, (paraphrasing) "In the end, we all revert to the level of our training."

Calling 911 is NOT the ONLY solution

Fixed that for ya...call 911...then ventilate badguy with extreme prejudice if he breaks INTO my house

Exactly! There's nothing wrong with calling for help, but in the end, your life is your responsibility.

Just don't say "I'm gonna kill 'em" while you've got the 911 operator on the phone. They seem to frown on that.

HV, its not that detailed and it was aired on Court TV.

I was a bit surprised at the age of the victim, on the phone it sounded like an elderly lady.

Wrong, calling 911 is not a solution at all.

If someone is in my house without my consent, I will stop the person. I will then call the police, most likely on the non-emergency line to come remove the incapacitated person from my domicile.

Also, that audio is perfect proof why any adult who can legally possess a firearm should have one ready while at home.

A firearm that is not easily and quickly acquired and loaded is no better than a police officer on the other side of town.
