I ride a bike for health reasons and carry a can of wasp&hornhet spray works good to wart off agrressive dogs and even their owners ...

You might consider something made for larger animals. Maybe some dog, bear, or other heavy stream OC / Pepper spray that will reach out there and not blow back at you as easily.

OC should have no permanent effect on dogs, so I would recommend it over wasp spray.. which may contain chemicals that could cause serious damage to an animals eyes.

Be careful protecting yourself or your children from animals. You can protect your livestock animals from attack under very limited circumstances, but not your children, your wife, your aged mother, yourself or your pets. [/sarcasm] The PETA nut-jobs really put one over on the Legislature this past session and it's going to get worse if people don't wake up. The way this is going, only TPC §9.22 "Necessity" is going to be a defense.

Obviously, I'm exaggerating folks, but these organizations/nut-jobs are a real problem and their legislative victory this past session is proof.

Charles, about the nut jobs but what did they get from the legislature this past session? I must've been out to lunch when it was going on as I don't remember hearing anything about it.

I am not really worried about causing serious damage to an aggressive dog trying to bite me. Here in Liberty County where I reside the SO tells us to shoot the dogs i f they come after you.... aggressive dogs are bought and paid for. "!

This is a significant change to the law that is troublesome as animal attacks (on people and other animals) are extremely common.

While I am an animal person, really love my pets and will protect them from harm, these 'nut jobs' are extremists to the point of being terrorists. They can, and will, do whatever they need to get thier message out there.

Animal and environmental rights activists are not always peaceful. ALF, ELF, etc. have a lot of redicals that will push the limit to terrorism level if they need to. The FBI considers them as big a risk as many other terrorist organizations http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/19/domest ... index.html
They have even gone as far as targeting individuals they view as being cruel to animals. A rogue follower may be willing to make someone a target for their beliefs.

I work for a major untiliy. While I know wasp and hornet spray will work, a good gell type OC will do the job just as well and is viewed as more humane. So, bottom line, if you must protect yourself from an animal attack, I would suggest you do it in a manner that is NOT going to put you in the lime light and potentially get a target placed on you.

Other times, it seems to refer to some kind of spray, such as Mace or pepper spray, or ???

Or is "OC" being used as shorthand for "Open Carry" of the Mace or pepper spray or ???

I'm well aware that the only stupid question is the one you don't ask, but I've hesitated asking this one for a couple of weeks.

The answer is YES.

Ain't it awful we live in a world with so many acronyms!! OC in this case stands for Oleoresin Capsicum which is the active ingredient in the new type of personal defense sprays and gells (also refered to as Pepper Spray.)
