Shooting dogs (with rubber bullets or otherwise) in a populated area is probably not the best idea unless your wife likes being held and gunpoint by the local constabulary and sitting handcuffed in the back of a patrol car while they investigate the 911 shots fired calls.

You might want to consider giving her pepper spray instead. It tends to make dogs think twice, and it will give her some of that additional range that you're looking to provide before she has to resort to kicking them.

Granted, she should still carry the gun while running, but I would suggest that it would best be loaded with lead and copper bullets for dealing with potential two-legged threats, and dogs that aren't persuaded by more gentle rebuff.

Plastic or rubber bullets can kill too,that's why they are referred to as less than lethal.In Ireland they use to ricochet the off the ground for crowd control,but if ya get hit in the head it can kill ya,or up close can penetrate.hit em with some dog the bounty hunter spray.

Buying your own dog, oh let's say an english mastif that likes to go for daily runs and you probably will never have another dog (or people) problem again. You will however go broke trying to feed that thing not to mention having to buy a fairly large shovel.

To a dog's olfactory gland, there isn't much worse. If they don't fall over whining, they're tail will be thoroughly tucked as they run.

+1, again. Buy the woman some good OC spray. Or even a squirt bottle with a 50% solution of ammonia in water...very effective on dogs.
