A Bit More D.C. Schadenfreude...

From Dave Hardy's
Of Arms and the Law:
Interesting event today. A small group of historians filed an amicus in support of DC.
And went 552 words over the word limit. So they have to resubmit tommorrow, the deadline. Since S. Ct. briefs have to be printed, I assume they were calling the printer today to see if they could bang out another set and have it to the Court by tommorrow.
To borrow a phrase... Heh.

Well, I guess they made it in...
From Dave Hardy' blog

Historians' brief for DC
Here. Caveat: pdf, 300K.
Can't post all the amici when they come in today, as 30-40 are expected, but as soon as the Supreme Ct. puts them online, they'll be
here. You have to scroll down to find District v. Heller.

Arms and the Law is a great website and has been a help to me in clearing up what these briefs and amici really mean. I did find it disturbing though that out leftist friends in the White House
aren't real supportive in the battle against gun banners.
As I read this, the (Bush) Dept of Justice is asking that the Court hold it to be an individual right, but not strike the DC gun law, instead sending it back down to the trial court to take evidence on everything from how much the District needs the law to whether people can defend themselves without pistols and just what the DC trigger lock law means. THEN maybe it can begin another four year trek to the Supremes. That is, the DoJ REJECTS the DC Circuit position that an absolute, flat, ban on handguns violates the Second Amendment, and contends that it might just be justified, it all depends on the evidence.
There was a saying during my years in DC that the GOP operated on two principles: redacted your friends and appease your enemies. Yup.
In the spirit of 10 year old daughters I censored a word meaning a wedge wrapped along a cylinder.
