What are the legal limitations of carrying fixed blade knives.

How long a blade?

Are blades sharpened on both edges allowed?

This would only be for carry with a concealed firearm.

To be on the safe side, a single-edged blade of less than 5.5 inches is good.

There is some controversy on the issue of if a CHL allows the carry of 'illegal knives'. The DPS doesn't believe the law allows it. And the courts haven't ruled on it.

I was thinking of a blade shorter than 5.5"

I have seen some good looking knives with blades in the 3 - 4 inch range.

Some of the longer ones were sharpened on both sides. I don't really want to be a test case.

Thanks for your help

It has to be under 5.5" and it can not be double edged (sharpened on both sides, any part of it). A "false edge" is different, but you'll probably end up defending your position in court (not worth it). No switch blades, dirks, stiletto's, daggers, bowie knife or spear. Not sure why they included the "bowie" aside from the length restriction. It is capable of "back cutting" due to the shape of the tip, but most have a "false edge" in that location. Anyway, its on the "No-No" list for common carry.
