I am thinking of getting a Kimber Pro Ten BP as a carry gun I like the idea of the 13 round mags and its still a 1911 format , or is the XD's a better format. I am looking for anyone that owns one. I need to know how well they work .

I just bought an SA XD-45 last Friday and fired 150 flawless rounds through it on Sunday. Very comfortable, accurate, and fun! Don't know anything about the Kimber Pro Ten BP, though...

I love my XD 45. In my opinion, it's a lot of gun for the money.

I recently bought a polymer 1911-style pistol - a Charles Daly / Bul-Transmark M5 - from Bud's Gun Shop http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php (sent to my locall FFL, Bud's is not in Texas).

It prints lots better than I can hold; feeds, fires, and extracts factory ball and my lswc "practice" loads; and I am totally please with it. The only downside is that magazines are very expensive and it only comes with one. The ad on Bud's web site says 10-round but the pistol box says 13-round, and it holds 13 rounds.

I've read, but can not confirm, that Bul-Transmark originally made the polymer receivers for Kimber. The rails and internals are steel, the grip portion is plastic.

The trigger on mine is so light I would be reluctant to carry the pistol - for me, it is a "range" gun - because the trigger is so light. For most well-trained folks this is not an issue at all, but I am not as well-trained as I should be.

Never shot an XD so can't provide any comparison.

But I would be curious to hear other's feedback on the Kimber, I've seen ads for them but have yet to see one personally.

My daily carry isn't an XD but it's a full size 45 acp with a polymer frame. I love it. Light weight, durable, reliable and high capacity. (I carry the Taurus 24/7)

I've put more than a few rounds through an XD. They're good guns and would be a good CC option imo.

You might also look at the 24/7 as well. I have video reviews on my sig line. Both would be good choices though.

I own 2 Glock /45 (a 21SF and a 30), a Springfield XD .45, and I have shot a Kimber BP Ten II. They all shoot about the same with the only advantage the Kimber having being that it's trigger is a little smoother from the factory. one disadvantage it has is that you can't get one with any kind of rail. I'm not sure how important that is to you, but I like my pistols to have one. Another disadvantage is that it is somewhat rare so don't be too suprised if you need parts for the lower and can't get them. The mags are espensive but honestly no more than Sig, HK, or Para mags. My Springfield XD has a very custom trigger on it that is still completely reliable as far as safety and is very comparable to some of my customized 1911s. It's a very shootable pistol and I have had zero porblems with it. Both my Glocks are also very nice and I really enjoy shooting my 21SF. My 30 is a great carry piece. I agree with Led Jedi that if you want something cheap the 24/7 is a good option from what I have seen. If I was going for a full size poly framed .45 I think i would choose the Glock 21 SF. This is based off of my shooting all of them and the "if I had to pick one" scenario. I liked them all so much though I bought all the poly framed .45 that I liked! Ahh the joys of being young and single with a good job!

The Smith and Wesson M&P 45 is awesome. SRVA shot it to a regional IDPA Championship. I used it to upgrade my IDPA classification to expert. This is my pick due to its ergonomics and accuracy.

I recently purchased a Glock 21......I have done very little shooting with it, but it sure does look promising. Carrying that puppy concealed with caused me immediately to go out and purchase suspenders!

If it's a compact .45, it's either the 30 compact or the 36 subcompact. They're Glocks, so they're reliable, easy-to-use guns, but the grip on the 45 doublestack mags is way too square and chunky, and I say that owning a Ruger P-series which have some of the biggest grips on the market.

I've shot a Ruger P345, and it's a pretty nice gun. Only 8+1, but very comfortable to hold and fire (slimmer contoured grip). I think I like the M&P 45 best though; feels good in my hands, easy to shoot, strips in seconds, and holds 2 more than the Ruger. Neither is anything like a compact; They're both pretty slim (the M&P's a tough narrower) but they're both long and tall so concealment is iffy.

I own and carry a Kahr P45. It's light, utterly reliable and very accurate at combat distances. Extra magazines can be bought on line from Bud's for less than Kahr asks for them. Mine is in black stainless (which I prefer). Be advised: the Kahr poly .45 comes with some fairly aggressive checkering. To solve the problem, I put a bicycle inner tube over the grip area.

Well, I have a polymer pistol (Sig P250) that can be converted to .45 acp..... dunno if I'll get that particular conversion when it becomes available, though.

I will definitely be getting the .40 conversion kit, however.
