My wife hates my Glock

Rather, it would be more accurate to say that she hates the combination of the lack of an external safety on the Glock, and the fact that I carry a round in the chamber. We've had this discussion a few time since she realized I intended to carry it that way (what good is an empty gun?), and it became the topic of discussion again as I sat in the living room just now loading my magazines with my new Federal Premium LE HST 165gr. JHP.

She told me that she wouldn't make an issue of it if I carried a gun with a 'real' external safety. I told her I could accept that. Now, I have to decide what my new carry weapon will be.

Yup, you gotta be careful, them holsters sometimes pull the trigger all by themselves.

Sit down with her at the pc and check out these guns with external safeties. She might have second thoughts when she sees how much an external safety costs. http://www.nighthawkcustom.com :evil2:

An HK would fit the bill.

+1

You need to snag it in two opposite directions for it to go off in your waistband due to the grip safety. I make it a habit to stay off the grip safety when holstering. Beyond that, it will be just like your Glock. Point and shoot because there's no proper way to shoot it without being on the grip safety.

I'm going to look at the XD. I'm also going to look at 1911's. If I opt for the traditional external safety, I need something that's ambidextrous. I might also like something a little smaller than the Glock 23.

Get the XD with the thumb safety if it makes her happy.

If you want something just like your Glock but with a safety then get an XD. However if you want to use this as an excuse to get a more expensive gun then get a 1911.

She has TOLD you to get a new gun, right?

At least I'm glad to hear that you aren't arguing at this point. So make it the best dang gun you can! I mean, sure - you could get a Ruger with a manual safety. And they are great guns (I have one), but I gotta say it wouldn't be my first choice for a CCW pistol. My top choices in a situation like this would be:

1) 1911 - hey, there are a ton of holsters and other after market options out there and you could get it in just about any caliber you want.
2) CZ - pick -75 for 9mm and .40S&W or -97 for .45ACP. Great guns, but accessories are a bit tougher to find. Especially for the 97.
3) H&K - hey, she told you to get a new gun, right?
4) SA XD - that grip safety counts, right?

The RIA tactical 1911 has an ambidextrous safety, and i beleve sarco inc has them for $389.00,or you can get the compact $329.00 and have an ambi safety installed

You might want to look at the Taurus 24/7. They have all the bells and whistles and come in various sizes and calibers.

I had the same issue with SWMBO when I started talking about getting back into pistol shooting and CCW. She was really freaked out about the idea of a Glock or another pistol without a manual safety. I bought a Springfield XD, and she really liked the thought of the grip safety. After shooting the XD, and discussing the issue, she realized that there is nothing inherently unsafe about the Glock type design. I recently bought a Steyr M40A1, which like the Glock has no traditional maual safety. She is perfectly fine with it being in the house, with me carrying it, and even shooting it. She likes the XD better, and is still more comfortable with the thought of the grip safety for herself, so she has claimed it as her own. I really don't mind...the Steyr is my favorite pistol that I have ever owned or shot, so I still win.
