Most holster makers offer a "tuckable" IWB holster look at CompTac, High Noon, Galco, Don Hume etc.

I'm 5'11'' 250# and I personally find an OWB to be more comfortable but, a smaller gun in a "tuckable" is doable but, not for all day. To be comfortable with an IWB your pants need to be about two inches larger than normal. I pocket carry a small gun when I can't wear my OWB.

YMMV.

owb is not an option due to the tucked in shirt

I'm a mechanic, too. After much thought to the matter, I've realized that you can pretty much forget it. Bending, reaching, leaning, crawling under dashes is bound to be painful and to expose the pistol at times. Something tiny like a Kel-Tec or a NAA Guardian in a PagerPal or SmartCarry might work. Your best bet might be to keep your piece in a drawer in your toolbox.

This could be useful to you: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... t=11082005

Doing mechanic work and trying to conceal a full size 1911 is going to be virtually impossible

Unless you get a very small pocket pistol you are going to be quite limited on what you can carry

I use a Milt Sparks VM-II for my full size 1911 and it is the best I've used. They sell extra clips that allow you to tuck your shirt in over it.
