I am looking for a Swiss K-31. Anybody got one, preferably walnut?
I've got cash or can offer in trade or partial, some Speer Gold Dot 124+P 9mm.
Thanks.

When I was in Military Gun Suppy about 2 weeks ago they had a few at $189 or $199. Glad I bought mine last year at $139.

Yeah, I know I'm late on this bandwagon...
I hate to buy one from the distributors without being able to check it out first... that's why I thought somebody might have one collecting dust they would part with.
I may have to run up and check out what they have though... were they in decent shape?

Southern Ohio has G-VG beech for $199 and walnut for $229, handpick $10 extra on either.
I can recommend a guy that will provide a better rifle for little extra.

The last time K-31's were discussed was here:
http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewto ... 88&t=48512
His name is Todd and he operates Family Firearms & Finishes. He will actually physically inspect a stack of guns at Aim or Southern Ohio and only buy select ones that meet his criteria. Can you do business this way? Nope! It don't make sense, but he does it and then adds only a small markup. I won't try to convince anyone. Just spend some time reading the FF&F forum.
He has a website, but it isn't used. He sells at Ohio shows and through the forum. Send him an email or PM or call him (he loves to talk).

Here's another option, but no recommendation from me. Caveat emptor.
Beech with photos listed for $185.

His website doesn't seem to be working right at the moment, but Dennis Kroh at
Empire Arms can't be beat for quality. Everything he sells he has personally inspected and graded, and he doesn't buy junk.
You'll pay a reasonable premium for the guarantee of quality.

I agree, but the K-31 he has listed right now has been reduced to $725.
So far, I haven't been able to afford anything that I wanted from Dennis.
He gets $595 for Russian Makarovs, but they absolutely draw raves as to their condition.
I just didn't realize we were talking about a 'money is no object' situation.
All I suggested was for folks to visit Todd's forum and read the satisfied comments about the guns and the transactions and make up their own minds.

Thanks for the help, guys.
Looks like there are a couple places to check out.... and oh, yeah, money is a factor, so the $725 example is out (although, WoW!)
Still thinking somebody might have one, and wouldn't have mess with shipping etc...

Me either, but his prices really aren't out of line.
You have to take into account that his K-31 isn't just an ordinary rifle. It was made in 1940, and even though Switzerland wasn't a combatant, wartime items always command a premium. It has the correct sling. It includes a bayonet, and for years the bayonets have cost more than the rifles. The scabbard is S/N matched to the rifle. And of course, it's in fantastic condition.
It's not a $189 take-your-chances special.
Finding (or assembling) this rifle/bayo/sling would cost at least $600 and a lot of time, plus a lot of money spent taking chances.

The ones at Militay Gun Supply looked okay but they were not in as good a shape as the ones they had last year. Mainly the stocks were beat up some. They still looked pretty servicable however.

The reason usually given for the 'beaver chewed' stocks is that the guns were carried much in snow and ice.
The soldiers would use the butt stock to knock the ice from the boot cleats.
The reason you can have a rifle with little wear with a beat up stock.
