a 28 year old mentally ill person can walk into walmart, buy few cans of spray paint, and a lighter, pay for it, and then start setting things and people on fire.

Technically the person wouldn't even have to pay for it.
Or how about baseball bats, Tire irons, or even the little pegs hooks they use to put merchandice on. There is a multitude of items laying around that can be used to maim and destroy people and property. You dont have to fill out a form to get any of them or require special access to restricted areas.
Anything can happen anywhere. Thats why awareness is key to survival.

Its not the tools that are dangerous..its the psycho wielding that tool!

I'm sure if this guy really wanted to he could have killed someone with a wiffle ball bat. It's not about the tool. It's about the person. I'm sure when I was a ninja in a former life I could have killed a man 37 ways with just my thumb....

You know I gave my son one of those plastic extending light sabers and we spar all the time with them. My wife tried to do it one time and got a nasty cut cause she didn't block when he attacked. So yeah its possiable.
She tried to take it away and I told her not to pick something up if she was not prepared for the out come. Needless to say my son still has his sabers.

Convicted felon with a history of mental illness buys 8-inch butcher knife in a mall store that wasnt posted 30.06.
Removes it from the packaging.
Enters food court restroom.
Sees bystander using urinal w/back to him.
Pulls out knife and attempts to stab man once in the back.
Observant CHL draws weapon and orders said felon to stop and drop the knife.
Said felon ignores order and turns to stab CHL holder.
CHL holder stops the threat.
Said felon leaves the restroom in a body bag and is pushed through the mall to the body car, with law enforcement carrying the bloody knife in a bag.
Or better yet:
Convicted felon with history of mental illness denied parole.

What malls should do is add the word "KNIFE" to 30.06 signs, thereby making them non-compliant.
PURSUANT TO SECTION 30.06, PENAL CODE (TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF A LICENSE TO CARRY A CONCEALED HANDGUN) A PERSON LICENSED UNDER SUBCHAPTER H, CHAPTER 411, GOVERNMENT CODE (CONCEALED HANDGUN LAW), MAY NOT ENTER THIS PROPERTY WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN OR A KNIFE.
CONFORME A LA SECCIÓN 30.06 DEL CÔDIGO PENAL (TRASPASAR PORTANDO ARMAS DE FUEGO) PERSONAS CON LICENCIA BAJO DEL SUB-CAPITULO H, CAPITULO 411, CODIGO DE GOBIERNO (LEY DE PORTAR ARMAS), NO DEBEN ENTRAR A ESTA PROPIEDAD PORTANDO UN ARMA DE FUEGO O UN CUCHILLO.
I believe that I could carry right past one of those.
