Is it legal to drive with your shoes off? can you get a ticket for this. Some where in my some what tired old brain I recall something like this. Maybe I was just misinformed once.

I do not know the legalities of it ,but I can tell you that if you have a wreck and have to walk barefoot through broken glass, or if your carbreaks down and you have to walk to the nearest service station, your going to wish you at least had shoes In the car.

I some times wear flip flops when in the truck when driving. I will slide one off and pin it with the other foot. If an officer stopedme I would just slide it back on no one the wiser.

While I don't know of any true state laws about barefoot driving, I know a ticket can be issued for reckless driving if you are barefoot and it causes you to not have proper control of your vehicle.

I don't know about the current state of the law in Texas, but back in the 1960s in California I was told that driving with your shoes off was A) illegal anyway; and B) cause for a statuatory rape charge if you had an underaged female in the car with you, and she had her shoes off. I don't remember who poured that notion into my head at the time, but I was a long-haired screwball back then and I had a LOT of foolish notions poured into my head at the time - the product of being too open minded.

But legal or not, like melkor41 said, you'll be hatin' life if you have to walk through broken glass and metal after an accident. I would at least keep a pair of something easy to slip on your feet handy. During the summer, I sometimes drive with slip on sandals.

When I was a kid in Arkansas (got my learner's permit at 14, in 1977), we were always told it was illegal to drive barefooted.

I never saw the law, though. Likely just a legend.

This has been an urban legend for a long time. While in traffic school, I asked a CHP officer about this and he had no idea what I was talking about. I have always suspected that this legend was started when a cop threatened to arrest some teenage boy at some "lover's lane."
