Florida Governor Charlie Crist (R) signed a bill that will prohibit employers from imposing sanctions on employees and customers who have a concealed weapon license and keep firearms in their vehicles.

Employers are expected to attempt to overturn the law in court.
Why is Florida the pioneer in the fight to restore the RKBA?

Makes sense to me. It is my car and I should be able to keep what I want in it just like I should be able to keep what I want on my person. I know someone else may own the property I am standing or parking on but they do not own my car or body.
I sure hope TX follows Florida's lead and Florida is able to keep their new law.

+1. Our company prohibits firearms in vehicles on the property per our employee manual. I can't even go to shoot after work without having to go home and get my range bag.

I hope FL's new law is better crafted than OK's was, so that it survives the inevitable court challenge intact.

Oklahoma's law was fine. The judge who ruled that it violated OSHA rules is a -- um, something bad.
I don't know what's happening with the Oklahoma law. I haven't read anything about it for months.

I have read that Florida is the NRA's intentional, unofficial "laboratory" or pilot state for RKBA-friendly legislation. Several reasons come to mind:
1. Firearms and firearm owners are not as culturally marginalized in Florida as they are in other large states such as California, New York and Illinois, and Florida gun owners vote consistently.
2. Florida does not have Sullivan Acts, FOIDs, class 3 bans or other legislative overgrowth, so the NRA and the people who cooperate with them within the state of Florida do not have to expend time, money and effort rolling back such foolishness.
3. Marion P Hammer, former NRA president and current member of the NRA BoD.

Good thoughts, Yerasimos. Also, Florida state government is not dominated by the political machines of large cities, as many state governments are (including Texas to some extent). All big-city governments are anti-RKBA. It seems to be in their job description.
