Well, I finally filled out my online application this morning. From what i've heard, I need to bring a good long book.

Any idea how long it might be before I get the confirmation statement to send in with fingerprints, etc?

They will send you a full packet with finger print cards and stuff to sign etc. Mine came within a week...Ultra fast...Its the mailing it back in for approval that u need a book for.

Packet received this past Friday. PIN in hand. Requisite doccumentation returned via certified mail Saturday.

Here I am waiting for my certified mail reciept to be returned to me. When I have it in hand, I am going to note the date DPS reccieved my packet. Then I am going to mark off 60 days on the calendar from that date. Then I am not going to check the DPS website until those 60 days are up! Ain't gonna look at it, ain't gonna wonder about it, ain't gonna think about it.

What I'm going to spend 60 days doing is practicing carrying, trying out wardrobe options, and practicing the draw stroke. Oh, and range time, too.

Good Idea......Once you check that dang website..it becomes habit forming...Before you know it your checkin 3 times a day..Stay strong.....I hope you make it....

I edited the title of my thread. Instead of the usual bellyaching, I want to direct my thread towards positive things to do while waiting for the platic to arrive. Feel free to join in.



Yesterday, I got three new shirts. I don't know what you'd call them, but they're made like those hawiian shirts but without the flowers on them. They seem to be all in style these days. Minor wardrobe adjustment.

While you're waiting, you can practice concealed carry going out to your car.

If you live in a house you can practice concealed carry in your yard while grilling or doing yard work.

That's what I've been doing. If my BBQ pit or lawnmower try any funny business, I'll be ready for them.

Those are very good ideas, but may I respectfully suggest, that to assist Chas in his efforts and provide him accurate data, that you consider checking the website just once a week, so that you can accurately report to Chas the number of weeks that went by between receipt of your package & going to "Processing" and between going to "Processing" to being issued? I certainly don't expect to be pleasantly surprised, so I'm not checking just to fume @ the DPS why I haven't gotten my plastic yet, but want to help Chas in any way I can.

Yep, thats exactly what I do to pass the time, my comp-tac minotaur holser is very comfy. I hardly notice its there, now if only I could get the state to issue my plastic.......

I thought he was more interested in how long it takes to actually get the licence. That's all I really care about. If my status stays listed ad "packet mailed to applicant" on the website for 59 days and they issue me my licence on the 60th day, that's what matters to me. I'd rather have them actually processing the application instead of updating the website.


Of course, I never said I wouldn't go ballistic on day 61.

Ok, after re-reading his post requesting data (here), I think you're right, he's specifically concerned with the span of [date received by DPS]->[License issued], less so with any status changes within that span (i.e., Packet mailed to applicant, PIN issued, Processing, Active). I guess in the interest of completeness and my analytical (some would call it anal-retentive) nature makes me interested in data as granular as possible, from which I can aggregate if needed.

Though I suppose now I'm coming up on the big 6-0 from the date it was received in Austin (58 today), so Monday will be JT's Ballistic Day!!!

I found out I need to start putting my wallet in the hip pocket on my off-hand side, otherwise it gets in the way. I also found out that the t-shirts I currently have will ride up a bit and get caught behind the grip of the pistol as I move, outlining it quite nicely. Most of my polo shirts work okay. If I have them tucked in and bloused a bit, I can bend over quite far before the gun prints and the shirt falls back down quite nicely. If they are untucked, they ride up a bit but a discreet tug on the hem fixes that. I probably need larger t-shirts and polos, but I need to find some that don't look like I'm wearing a tent.

Oh yeah, my packet was signed for on Apr. 28. The reciept has a rubber stamp with someone's name and a different address on it: Joe L. Rodriguez, 5805 N. Lamar Blvd. 78752 Should I worry?
