So, I've been getting nothing but busy signals (not even the normal "please hold") when I call Texas DPS about my CHL. Anyone been experiencing the same, or has my number been blocked lol

I had an auto repair technician tell me about a study the auto industry conducted years ago.
They monitored technicians as they would be interrupted by:
The phone call from the spouse...
The customer who "insists" on speaking directly with the technician...
etc, etc, etc...
They found that (depending on the complexity of the task they were engaged in) it would take up to 30 minutes for a technician to get back on track to the point before being interrupted. As one who made a living turning wrenches on motorcycles for 15 years, I would tend to agree with this observation.
Bottom line: QUIT BUGGING THEM!!!!
Each minute they spend answering the phone means at least one more minute delay on everybody else's application. It's not their fault that the state failed to properly staff their office with enough people. They will get more done if they aren't answering emails or the phone.

It is only the 2nd time I have called since this whole process started. 1st time I actually spoke with someone, but this time I got a busy signal. I don't really consider 2 calls in 60 business days "bothering them"
That being said, there is some truth to the addage "the squeaky wheel gets the oil"

It really is a strain on them. Check out my post form a couple of other threads.

If everyone just calls or emails 2 times in their 60 day period of approval, that averages 90 calls or email an hour they have to deal with in an 8 hour day.

Then they should have the appropriate staffing that answers the calls/emails ONLY and others that do the actual work on the applications.......
If they are behind on the apps, then they should add more to the phone bank.....How hard is this to figure out?
Want me to go down and manage that place? I guarantee it will work and work efficiently after I clean house a bit......

Charles was good enough to tell us that the state acknowledges that there is a problem. But, until the Legislature addresses it, the CHL department is not going to have 100 extra people "magically" appear to help out. They are overwhelmed, and we know there is not going to be a short term fix.
As responsible gun owners and CHL applicants, we need to take the high road and be patient. Our image is not going to be improved by constantly nagging the employees who are processing these applications. It's like rush hour. You can cuss and pound the steering wheel all you want, but you won't get through it any faster. You just have to sometimes go with the flow.
Oh, yeah. As a reminder of what is going on in Austin:

Ya know, you guys who live in the Austin area could go ask if they need any unpaid volunteers to help out.
You could be like candy-stripers for concealed handgun licenses!

I have to agree 100% with this. Add up the total fees they are receiving from us? Go hire some more people!!
