I plan on going to the Ft. Worth zoo in the near future and wanted to know if the zoo was 30.06 posted. The zoo may be considered an amusement park in which case I know it would be illegal. However, I am not certain if it is and thought I would check with you to see if anyone knew for certain. I did a search but could not fing anything.

I do not have the book in front of me right now but I think there are several qualifications an establishment has to meet in order to be considered an amusement park.

Interesting. From the Zoo's website, it appears the zoo is probably on city-owned land/buildings, and managed by a non-profit thru a contract. Would seem to conflict with the "state/city governments can't post" law. (No, I don't buy that a lease makes the lease-holder the owner).

However, does the zoo qualify as an amusement park? In a county of more than one million population (yup) 75 acres (dunno), controlled access (I sure hope so!), security guards at all times (I would suppose so), open more than 120 days/year (yes), and "amusement rides are available for use by the public?" Dunno about that last one -- does a tour thru the animal park qualify as an amusement ride?

And if it is an amusement park, which takes precedence -- the "gummint entity shall not post" or the amusement park rule?

Interesting as the Houston Zoo is not posted and I carried several times I was there. Not sure why would a city owned and operated zoo would post a 30.06 sign. Does not make a whole lot of sense.

Even if it is an amusement park, they are now required to post per 30.06 to be off limits (clause (i)). I am pretty sure that the Ft. Worth Zoo is on publicly owned land, but I don't have any hard data to point to to back up that assertion. Be careful, and, if you decide to pack, keep it concealed unless you need it.

Edited to add: According to the About Us page of the Ft. Worth Zoo web site, the zoo is owned by the City of Ft. Worth, but managed by the Fort Worth Zoological Association. Since the premises are owned by a government entity, 30.06 is excepted, in my (and most other's around here) opinion. I still say beware any unintentional failure to conceal, though. Have fun at the zoo!

The Ft Worth Zoo contends that because they often host school field trips, they can consider their facility a school for the purpose of this posting.
I don't buy it, and I told them so.

Most of us concluded the sign is invalid.
it's also poorly placed. You can't see it until you have paid admission and headed into the park.

No one volunteered to be a test case, BTW.

So, they're claiming as long as we don't enter "a building or a portion of a building" it's fine for a CHL to walk around the grounds?
