Yes, for trains and buses operated by local government. Various transit authorities tried to ban CHL early on, and the legislature made it clear that they could not (by passing PC 30.06).

Amtrak is a private company and prohibits weapons on its trains, including in packed luggage. They can deny you entry or put you off if they find out, but it is not a criminal offense in Texas. The same goes for Greyhound.

Taxis are an interesting question. I have seen "no weapons" signs on taxis (along with "no pets, no food, no smoking, no alcohol, no swearing"), but as they do not conform to 30.06, they are not legally binding.

Thanks Jim, I never would have thought amtrac or greyhound would have that policy, glad I asked, seems like an airline might do that but not ground based transportation.

Correct, it's not against Texas law, but carry on Amtrak or Greyhound is illegal according to federal law because they meet the definition of a "common or contract carrier" in 18 USC 922(e).

The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as Amtrak (AAR reporting marks AMTK and AMTZ), is a government-owned corporation that was organized on May 1, 1971, to provide intercity passenger train service in the United States. "Amtrak" is a portmanteau of the words "American" and "track".[1]

All of Amtrak's preferred stock is owned by the U.S. federal government. The members of its board of directors are appointed by the President of the United States and are subject to confirmation by the United States Senate.

I did not realize that Amtrak is now effectively owned by the feds. It originally had common stock that was owned by the old passenger railroads.

In any case, it functions as a corporation, not a government agency.

Amtrak does have their own police force, who are all employed by the federal government. I would say that federal law applies.

Amtrak isn't the only quasi-private government "company". UNICOR is another (but there's little doubt about the legality of carrying guns on UNICOR property!)

Not to mention the U.S. Postal Service, which is also "independent".

"Independent" quasi-governmental agencies are generally a threat to liberty. Witness the various threads about "port authority" bans on firearms, and the general confusion about whether they're local, state, or federal.

Here is what I found on the DART website. So if you legally hold a CHL you can carry.

Section 2.02. Prohibited Conduct and Enforcement.
6. Carry or possess any illegal weapon;
