NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — A firearms instructor in southern Massachusetts has been assigned to other duties after his gun accidentally went off while he was teaching a class on weapons safety.
Officials say the Glock handgun discharged while Maj. Donald Lamar was demonstrating to Bristol County deputy sheriffs how to safely holster the weapon.
The bullet ripped a hole in Lamar's pants but missed his leg and foot.
Sheriff Thomas Hodgson says the officer made a "gross error in judgment" by not emptying the weapon before the class last week.
Lamar,
a certified firearms instructor since 2005, was transferred to another division and will not carry a firearm while the incident is being investigated.

This is the perfect example to support requiring people to obtain training before they exercise their RKBA thus eliminating unsafe firearms handling.

Sounds to me like you’re advocating a "reasonable restriction" on the RKBA.

Shaggy, Shaggy, Shaggy. What am I going to do with you? How dare you quote me in that tone of voice!

You have learned much Grasshopper.
The 2A says nothing about training to carry just like the 1A says nothing about education before one speaks.

I thought Glocks couldn't go off while hostering them. Hmm, may have to rethink that.

I know you Glock lovers are fanatic and I'll admit that they are fine weapons
BUT
A plain old fashioned double/single action weapon probably wouldn't have fired in that instance. It only takes one time to have a lapse, or to forget, or to be tired, or whatever and that's it. We all point our fingers and laugh and think it won't happen to us but we we must be honest and admit that it can.
For myself, I want that first shot to require a long and deliberate trigger pull. I want there to be no question that it was supposed to go off and that is the reason why I carry a Double/Single action semi auto and always will. I wouldn't mind having a Glock and someday it will be added to my collection. I know I will enjoy the heck out of shooting it.
For now though, and considering my limited funds, it will have to wait. Also, has anyone besides me noticed that Glocks are simply the ugliest creation of any mechanical device ever concieved? Even Kel-Tecs look better than a Glock.
I also recommend to any of my friends that are just getting started in firearms to stay the heck away from a Glock or any of the clones. A Glock should not be the first pistol to learn on.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just one of those gun nuts who hated Barney and was glad to see the day when his kids no longer wanted to watch him.

I dunno, a normal DA/SA carried decocked, safety off would be just as easy to do that with...that part was probably mostly just accident. Leaving it loaded while doing a classroom demo...that's negligent.

wonder if it was a Fohty?
and obviously, he forgot to engage the safety, you know, the one that operates this one

Well, hopefully I never put a hole in myself with my Glock. I'm very careful, but like you said, anything could happen.
As far as it being ugly, compared to a stainless Kimber, no doubt. But what the heck do I care? Nobody ever sees the thing anyway. And if they do, chances are they're not going to care what it looks like. Hopefully they'll just run the other direction.
I actually purchased the Glock as my first weapon because it's the easiest to deploy from the holster and get into action, in my opinion. I didn't like fumbling with the external safety on my Bro's 1911, and I was much more accurate with the Glock anyway. It was also very easy to teach my wife and daughter to use.
And +1 on the Barney comment. I hated that show.

And neither should be a KelTec.
I can't begin to count how many people told me to buy a Glock for my first gun. Once I held one I said to myself "this feels like holding a plastic brick in my hands". It was the most uncomfortable feeling I could imagine in a handgun. Since I was a kid of 15, I've always wanted to own a Beretta so that was my first choice but I didn't jump the gun (pun not intended). I looked at a few others. In my list of five were the Beretta Px4 Storm, S&W M&P, FN FHN9, Ruger P95 and Springfield XD. I finally decided on the Beretta Px4 Storm and I am very happy with it. I have no idea how many rounds I pumped through this gun but I've used a lot of different brands of ammo and not one failure or jam or any kind. And it's accurate. I bought it back in October. When I was living in NYC I used to shoot a compound bow (target only) and from that experience I've come away with one rule of thumb when buying anything like this, If it doesn't feel good in your hands, no matter how much practice you get or how much training you go for, you won't shoot it well. In short, comfort builds confidence and accuracy will follow.

Had to be the holsters fault.
