Anyone been to this range? Just across the freeway from Memorial City Mall.

A friend of mine went to a shooting range a few years ago north of the Katy Freeway inside the beltway...but I'm not sure if it was the same range. I heard that range closed down (wasn't a bit surprised).

Anyone been to this one on Witte road?

I've been to the range.

They are under new ownership, and they are trying to perk it up a bit. They have a few nice pistols for sale at what appears to be reasonable prices, and a small accessaries area. The owners are friendly. The last time I was there (about six weeks ago) they still had manual cranks to run the targets down range. I don't know if they are planning to upgrade them.

I live about midway between Memorial Oaks and Shiloh, so I go to either one.

Hope this helps.

Is it nice enough to be worth $15/hour?

They are nice folks there, and the place is going through a major upgrade with a "Shoot House" being built. The shoot house will be mostly for training I believe, and not sure if it'll be open to regular shooting. Go check it out and ask some questions, you can always decide for yourself after you see the place.

Edd Hindee did a commercial on KSEV for one of their combat pistolcraft classes. He said that he had taken the class.

I've been before, when it was under the old management. Didn't care for it much. The owner treated everyone like they were inept. My dad asked him to move the sights on his Glock, but he was reluctant insisting that my dad was not shooting properly. My dad has been in the military, police, and has been shooting/hunting since he was a small kid. So we go back into the range, he shoots 10 shots with his glock, and 10 shots with my Sig 229. The glock is 1" to the left, the sig is dead center (Each grouping could have been covered with a quarter).

I wasn't surprised when it closed... I've been wanting to try it out now that it's under new management though. I've neard nothing but great things about them since they reopened...

I need to take that back: The range used to be home base for Tactical Shooters Club. The club has had to leave the range, and hopefully will have a new home soon.

Memorial Shooting Center (Formerly known as Memorial Oaks Shooting Club) has new partners that are making a huge investment in upgrading the range. I don't know all the details of what happened with the Tactical Shooters Club so I can't speak for either party on that issue. I can say however that I worked with the new partners at Top Gun and I think they are committed to making Memorial Shooting Center a top-notch range.

A lot of things were and are still done wrong at Top Gun. The partners at Memorial Shooting Center are trying to correct past mistakes and use the lessons learned from Top Gun to make something better. That has lead to some growing pains and some conflicts because Memorial Oaks was actually losing money on many of the agreements they previously had in place with vendors and instructors. I don't agree with all of the policies they have but they are trying to build a brand based on a specific training method developed by Rob Pincus called Combat Focus. Above all, they are trying to develop a consistent product. They aren't perfect but I think in the long run, they might be on the right track.

Anyway, here's a plug passed to me from one of the partners via email...

That place is a hop skip and a jump from where I live. I went there once several years ago. I drive halfway across town to Top Gun now.

It looks like they are making improvements. I might have to check it out again.
