This might be a dumb question but...If you are riding in a friends car and he gets pulled over do I need to show the officer my DL and CHL the same way as if I was driving my own car?

Only "when a magistrate or a peace officer demands that the license holder display identification" (411.205)
It might be a good idea to offer it even if they don't ask but it's not required.

I would not unnecessarily give the officer a reason to divert his attention to you. As stated above, only if asked for ID, do you have to present the CHL.
If, for whatever reason, as a passenger, I was being asked to get get of the vehicle and the handgun was not real well concealed, I would possibly verbalize first that I had the license (and avoid pointing or using the word "gun" if stating its location).
However, unless there is a possibility the LEO might see the handgun (or a strong "print') before he sees the license, I'd just sit tight, not make any significant movements and keep my mouth shut.

But I would add that you are only required to present your CHL if you are in fact carrying at the time. Otherwise, DL or State ID is fine.

True, but you could get hassled for not showing it, and make the officer nervous in the process...

They usually don't even talk to the passenger unless they're suspicious of something.

From the ex cop point of view. As the passenger dont speak unless spoken too. Encourage the driver,if at night to turn on the interior lights and roll down the windows assuming you have power windows. IF the officer ask you the passenger for your ID, inform him at that time you are happy to comply but you want him to be aware you are a CHL Holder, if you are or are not packing. IF packing ask him does he want you to reach for your ID or would he prefer for you to step out. Dont make any moves until advised to do so. The fact you have turned on the interior lights and rolled down the windows, offered the information when asked and let him decide how to proceed will tell the officer volumes about rather or not you are a true threat. He wont put down his guard completely, but he will much more apt to be less aggressiive. Plus the fact you have taken all these steps to show you are concerned for HIS safety might even go a long ways toward the driver not getting a ticket.
