I received a letter from GOA in reference to concealed carry in National parks. The Bush administration finally after 7 years has issued regulations permitting carrying of firearms in national parks in accordance with the laws of the state in which the park is located. The regulations are to scheduled to become effective at the end of June.
Contact your member of congress to back Rep Broun HR 5646 to have the regulations made law so that a bureaucrate can not change the regulations.

Mesuspects El Presidente was not the hangup. As Govenor of Texas, George was real quick to sign the TX CHL law after his predecessor, Ann Richards, vetoed the prior attempt.

I had a student take CHL class last weekend in anticipation of this - and hopefully being able to carry while backpacking with (deaf) teenage daughter in Yellowstone ...

Once the comment period ends, the agency might take months to issue a final rule.

Or, they might withdraw the proposal if they don't like the comments (because the comments have to be taken into account when writing the final rule).

Agencies have been known to do sneaky things like withdraw proposed rules, then submit a new one when no one is looking. Trust me -- I work for an agency that has done this.

We aint there yet on this one.

In my view, this is one of the biggest issues with concealed carry - right up there with employer parking lots. As users of this forum are aware, calling 911 REALLY does not work in the backcountry. Under pressure from Congress, the park service has a proposal to make concealed regulations in parks consistent with that in state parks. So forget carrying in Yosemite, but you would be legal in Big Bend and Yellowstone.

Of course the park service itself, plus the anti-gun lobby, is claiming this will allow poaching, etc. I believe we need to make our voice heard, and urge you to put in your comments. The comment period ends on June 30. Right now the rule is only a proposal - it needs to be made final.

Only question I still have is how this will affect COE lakes. Didn't see it addressed in the proposed change.

It won't affect them at all. CoE lakes are not part of the National Park Service, so they don't use their rules.

While it won't directly effect them, if the rules change for National parks and such, and it as we expect successful. There will be pressure.

I see the distinction and probably should have rephrased my comment about COE lakes. Because I frequent them much more frequently than National Parks, I can only hope Liberty is correct in his assessment that if National Parks is approved/improved, COE will fall in line.
