Need Plinker round for .454

I am looking for a plinker round for my Ruger SRH .454 Casull and I am not referring to the .45 Colt I can shoot in the same gun. I recently tried 25.7 grains of 2400 and got a recoil similar to my Ruger RH .44 Magnum. Would still like to do better if possible. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

You didn't mention what type of bullet you were using, but I generally start from the Ruger Only load data for the 45 colt +p and work up from there.

I have used a 250 cast lead 45 colt bullet for plinking in the 454. 9 grains of Trailboss fills the case and gives according to the manual about 1,000 fps. Absolute powder puff load, just watch your speed or you can get leading in no time. Also used 11 grains Titegroup under a 250 jacketed. Felt like a 357 mag load... maybe a little less, burned clean and the large case wasn't a problem. POI on these low velocity loads is dramatically different from the ful power 454 loads, so be prepared to adjust the sights.

I was trying to develop 45 Colt loads for softer use in my 454 SRH but finally gave up due to POI. I have a 4x scope on mine and there was so much difference in where the bullet was hitting compared to the 454 loads that I would have been forced to change the scope settings each time. I believe you will find the same problem with "soft" 454 loads. If you are using iron sights then it may not be a big deal for you, but it was for me with the scope.
