PIN arrived "BUT"

Got my PIN letter today BUT there are two issues with it.

My name on the letter is in error and the PIN number does not work with the DATA on the Application sent to them.

I have sent them an E-mail about it.

I am a JR and put JR as suffix behind my last name on the application as instructed to in CHL class, at DPS it was picked up as my first name not the suffix and used as such on the PIN letter. I can see how it happened...So goes the life of a JR.

Then I went to check the website using the PIN they sent, no go there either, told me the data I used did not match the data they have. So I drag out the photo copies of the application and the data I was using to login with DL, SSN, BIRTH DATE is what is on the application so there is no reason for it not to work except there must be a bad PIN and/or typo/data entry error on their end.

Oh well will wait for the RE to my E-mail and see what goes.

Just gotta "rlol" about it...

Yes, sometimes that's all you can do... They probably have a few more up their sleeve for you as well... ;-)

Unfortunately, I think we will only see more of this. With every calling their State Representatives to get their applications pushed through, all of our calls griping why it's taking so long, those poor people who are responsible for data entry have to be working as fast as they can, and that can only mean that the number of data entry errors will go up.

The only solution I have is for people to go the online application route. YOU type in your information, and don't rely someone in Austin trying to process 50 applications per day as fast as they can who might mess it up.

Maybe the data they have is for the SR to your JR. Maybe "Pops" is getting a CHL as well... :patriot:

If I had it to do all over again I'd take the online route. Unfortunately, I had no foreknowlegde of the DPS snails. I just naturally assumed I'd get the license when they said I would....you know...in the law. :grumble Or at least I'd have a PIN by now.

LOL if Paw applied for a CHL I would fall over and really do this. "rlol" He has sold every gun he has ever owned.

No word back from my E-Mail yet, mid next week or later I bet before I hear something (wishful thinking?).

Yep if I had thought about it, I too would have applied online, but the class supplied the packets and the packet was filled out in class and in DPS's hands a few days later. There is no reason other than an error on their part for the PIN not to work with the DATA on the application that's for sure, even with them using the suffix JR as my first name. If they are using JR now, when they do use the proper name, an arrest will pop up from the early 80s, Paperwork of it's outcome from the DA's office showing the disposition of the charges filed, and papers from District Clerk of the arresting county showing they have no record of the outcome anymore for it was too long ago was with the application. But I’m sure if they used JR as my first name what ever they pulled up in JR's background had nothing to do with me....:

One thing this tells me is they are NOT doing a proper pre check of the DATA on the application based on the DL/ID numbers supplied on the application or they would have known my first name was not JR and it was in-fact the Suffix to my name. So go figure that one.

Oh well it will all come out in the wash sooner or later.

Not to change the subject but from your timeline am I to understand youve got a PIN (theoretically) and you sent in your app. in Mid- May?? Thats GREAT cause that may mean they may be catching up, and maybe things will be a little more "normal" time wise. Be sure to let us know how your delimma comes out...

If so, I'm a bit ticked as I still don't have a PIN and it's 61 days today.

Sure wish I'd done the online route, also. I have a couple of friends planning on taking their class and I'm suggesting to them to do the online route.

Yep that’s right sent it in mid May and got what they thought was a working PIN. See the timeline in my signature below.

I would be a bit upset also if I had not received a PIN and it was 60+ days, I would be checking it out by phone.
I know some say bugging them just slows them down but in a case where you should have received a PIN or rejection letter by this time, I would be trying to find out what’s up.

I have not heard anything back yet in reply to the E-mail I sent, I will give them due time to respond then I too will be calling. I figure mid this week should be plenty of time for them to respond to an E-Mail sent Thursday of last week.

I don’t see any problems getting this fixed, it will just eat up some time to do it.

It boils down to check and double check for to let a mistake get through takes more time to correct than it would to make sure it was right at the start. I’m a retired Handyman, Contractor (measure twice, cut once).

The interesting thing is he didnt apply onlinen he sent his stuff in like we did. In my case it took 82 days to get a PIN, which really doesnt mean a whole lot, it just makes me mad seeing "Processing App". :banghead:

Update:
Heard back from DPS yesterday, They corrected the name issue and informed me all info in their records matches what is on the application and what I sent in the E-Mail, But fell short of explaining why My PIN did not work.

So Last night I E-mailed them back addressing the PIN issue alone this time, sending them the PIN I was sent USPS. I received a reply today again saying that all DATA in their records was correct and that they were having a problem with People logging into the website and others were having the same problem. Gave me the E-mail address and 800 number to call to check status while they solve the Internet login problem.

Being they have the application DATA correctly entered into their records and have checked this as per their replies I am good to go except for the PIN issue that is really a non-issue if y’all follow my logic.

At this point being they sent the PIN letter I will just say they are "Processing App" and just sit back and :read: :sleep :fire some more and check on it in a month or so.
