My brother is coming to houston this weekend to purchase a Desert 50cal. Pistol
We plan to shoot it this weekend at a range, but the only range that i've used so far is TopGun Indoor, which has a limit on caliber. nothen over .44

Can anyone suggest a good outdoor range that a few guys can go out to and shoot some .50 cal.

I live in the galleria area. Near SW freeway.

Thanks,
:fire

If you're willing to drive to DFW, there's the Elm Fork range. I shot somebody's .50 cal Desert Eagle there about a month ago.

American Shooting Center in George Bush Park might be worth a look. Go out Westheimer past Highway 6 and bear to the right past the National Guard armory. It's down a ways on the right just across from the dog park.

ASC may be closest to you, but you might want to consider Hot Wells at 24815 Northwest Freeway; exit Skinner and make a U-turn (http://www.hotwellsshootingrange.com/). I haven't been there in a couple of months, but they've never had a restriction on handgun caliber. In fact, finding yourself in a lane next to someone shooting an S&W .500 Magnum is great "don't flinch" training. ;-)

Jeff or Ngoc will correct me if I'm wrong about the .50 issue, but in summer's heat an indoor alternative might be Shiloh (http://shilohshooting.net/). They're just east of Willowbrook Mall off Highway 6, air conditioned (actually, a very good air-handling system; no feeling you're inhaling fumes), pistol bays out to 75 feet and, well, just a very neat facility the Sanford family has built. Just don't shoot the target hangers!

Substitute FM 1960 for Highway 6 and you are good to go.
