I took my renewal class today at Gary's Gun Shop in Vidor. The instructor, Gary Warren (not the owner of the shop) is well informed and presented the material in an interesting and fun manner.

Although I personally think the old target better represents the anatomy and where you should be shooting, the new target is much easier to score well on as evidenced by the high scores shot by everyone.

Now, to see how long it takes DPS to process my renewal.

By the way, I aced both the written and shooting tests.

Great, You got past question # 41! No matter how many time's I cover that information it will still be the most missed question on the test.

What is question #41? As I recall, there is one question on the test with the wrong answer in the grading key, but I can't recall what it is. I know I missed it for each of my last 2 renewals.

I want to know too. My mother & wife both missed one. Wonder if that was it.

That's the one my instructor warned us about - - - he said it was a kind of tricky one he said to remember 3 strikes you are out!

If it's a trick question then it's a useless question.

I say that too, three strikes and your out. Still get's missed a lot.

There are alway's questions we don't like but they don't let us edit or change them, I have asked about that.

I will be taking my class (first time, not renewal) this Saturday, so I want to make sure I have this straight. As the question reads this would be a fourth "strike," so the correct answer is false, right?

If you are suspended twice for the same thing, you can be revoked on the 3rd violation.

So the answer is A concealed handgun license may be revoked when the licensee fails to notify the department of a change of address only if the license has been previously suspended twice before for failure to notify the department of a change in address.

Not that I am copping out...

But with all the things you have to remember if you move...Licenses and certifications seem to be tied together in certain ways so that little administrative issues like forgetting to change your address on one of those things is fairly simple...And doesn't put you in jeopardy if you overlook it for some reason...

Its not like its a malicious things we do, conceiving some master plan to "fool" the government by not telling them where we are or anything...

Wouldn't it be great if, instead of issuing a separate license with a separate number, the DPS would just send you a new driver's license with "CHL" on it in big bold letters?

Then you may not necessarily be "concealed" if you had to show your driver's license for ID in a store or bank, etc. (Re: "intentionally fail to conceal"). Really stretching a point, but I like them separate.

Years ago, I pushed for a special code on the driver's license so LEO's could tell what it meant, but most folks would not. The suggestion was rejected, primarily because it was felt some people wouldn't want that information known to anyone except LEO's. I think the code took care of the problem, but I was in the minority.

It wouldn't work now, unless the duration of DL's were increased to 5 years, as are CHL's upon renewal.
