does anyone here have any experience with the maxpedition jumbo versipack or similar, I want to know how practical the "man bag" is for ccw and general everyday use?

when I go visit my bil in Houston I alway's carry a "possibles" bag but it can get jumbled with gear and be hard to access my item's when needed.

the versipack seem's like it would organize thing's better.

I got my GF the "fatboy". It works great for her purse. It has its own compartment for your pistol...with one side covered in velcro and an adjustable velcro loop to keep your pistol in the upright position. She carries a Springfield Champion in it 24/7 along with her other things....up to and including the kitchen sink.

It would also be great for a "Man Purse" too.

thanx target I thought it would also double as a good carry "purse" for my wife also, i'll have to make sure and get the "holster" when I decide to get the pack.

it seems like it should carry alot of stuff too.

I carry my Jumbo Versipack every day as a work bag. It holds a lot of stuff well organized. I occasionally carry a pistol in it, with the universal holster that velcros into the concealment pocket. I also have a double mag holder in there, but just use it to keep a knife and flashlight.

It's a very durable bag, comfortable to carry, and it can carry some serious weight when needed. You can also attach many of the Maxpedition modular accessories to it if needed, either by velcro attachment points or with malice clips.

If it sounds like I like the bag, it's because I do. I wear my man-purse with pride.

The fatboy is actually one of the smaller of the bags.
the measurements are 8"x6.5"x3"..main compartment...plus a few smaller pockets

The jumbo Versipack is a little bigger at9x8x3" main compartment....plus other smaller compartments.

I carry around a knockoff Jumbo versipack. if it's gonna see daily hard use, I can't recommend a knockoff (mine is showing some fraying here and there after a few months). I wasn't sure if I would make good use of it, so I cheaped out. now that I've had it and find I like it alot, I'm going to get the real deal.

it is very well designed to keep your gear organized. weapon,flashlight, spare mag are very quick to access. phone, ipod, keys, wallet all have their place. I give it a hearty two thumbs up.

I have the versipack holster insert, and can't recommend it. all holsters must balance speed of draw with properly securing the weapon while running around. the velcro holster for the versipack is velcro on the outside, and rubber-lined on the inside. it's just too tacky, and makes for a difficult draw, often resulting in a loud tearing sound and the holster coming out still wrapped around the pistol. but.. I found it can adjust down small enough to hold my flashlight. so the weapon pouch houses my xd45c 'loose', and flashlight secured by the velcro holster. all good.

My GF removes her pistol everytime she walks in the house so she easy access. This has not been an issue for her. It has stayed right where she put it.
Your problem may be the difference in the velcro used in your bag being it is a knockoff. With hers, you really have to pull hard on the holster itself to get it to move.

I made an inset for My Versipack that holds my holster and a spare mag in such a manner that it keeps the back compartment open.
It has velcro attached to the back to keep it in sync , but really isn't needed.
Kydex allows you to form a back with a bottom lip and then rivet in a holster and mag holder. If I had really worked at it, I could have also made a holser for my flashlight.

It extends the usefulness and ensures that the gun is at the same place all the time. Speed in drawing has increased dramatically since I no longer have to feel for where the gun is.

There is a commercial manufacturer of such a thing which I found after making mine. It is advertised as an insert for the Brigade kit. I think you can find it on CTD.

I went ahead and bought myself an versipack (jumbo) and absolutely love the darn thing already unfortunately Texas Tactical was sold out of the holster rig so b3xd I might hafta try your kydex setup once I order me some, I been planning on xperimenting with the stuff anyway so may as well try it.

I got (2 of them)the OD right hand setup and an KHAKI s-type setup (lefthand), I was gonna get a colossus but again TT was sold out, I came to the conclusion that this VERY well made gear MUST be popular... !

It organizes my daily gear very well and will be great for those quick jaunt's to the range when I will just take a gun or two only.

Is the versipack big enough to use as a gym bag? Will a towel and change of clothes (shorts, t-shirt) fit in it?

hmmm... I'd say that cargo would be a bit of a stretch for mine (the 'jumbo', I think). the top does expand some so you could likely just get it all to fit, but it would take a bit of doing.

FWIW, you can get the Versipack or any of the series on line at Brigade Quartermasters. I believe brigadequartermasters.com will get you there. I've bought several things from them and am well satisfied with what I have gotten.

atxbandit I don't think the "jumbo" will hold gym gear but maybe the "colossus" will to a degree. The "jumbo" hold's my daily gear just fine but I can't fit any gun magazines in it that I carry to work and read at lunch but all the other items (key's, wallet, cell phone, work knife etc.) are well placed and secure.

For your gym "gear" I would suggest another type of bag maybe a well made duffel of some sort.

If your like me I carry enuff clothes for a change and spare shoes etc.
