I figured the picture of Borat was most appropriate! ( I had actually posted that once before on another forum and they told me I was ugly... "rlol" )

Another May application getting his/her license while a lot of us April applicants are still waiting for ours. Makes one wonder what kind of priority list they have at the DPS? Nothing against you getting your license-more power to you. Just seems the DPS doesn't have their priorities straight!!

One thing often mentioned is how fast the different counties respond. I need to come up with a web page to track counties listed on the app verses number of days to complete. See if there is actually a correlation.

Jmorris,

That sounds like an excellent idea. El Paso County sucks. Mailed in application April 17th, received by DPS April 21st. Not entered into system until June 24th. Still waiting.

Well I'm a late May application, and they tell me it is still awaiting completion of the background checks.

I live in Williamson and work in Travis co. I have lived in Travis co. over 10 years ago but I don't think I gave that address on my app. Heck I don't even remember that address!

There are other late May and early June apps that are complete and I suppose those are faster background check counties.

Of course I have no criminal history of any kind so maybe the background check is taking forever because they think they must be missing something :) I have never been finger-printed before filing my CHL and haven't even had a traffic ticket in nearly 15 years.

However considering the fact that the DPS CHL dept has been undergoing changes in personnel, policies and practices, as well as an increase in applications, then I think the county background checks are only likely a small factor. We could collect some stats and maybe find a correlation but we'd have to have a huge sample group to average out other individual quirks to each application. Some of the April applications may have been processed under an outdated (by now) method, and perhaps the May applications are treated to a revised method that results in quicker approval. It would be very hard to say.

Bexar Co. took the longest for me. 5 weeks.

Nueces Co. was the quickest. 6 days.

I'm sure I was all over the "system" because of my previous military service, but I don't know if that had any bearing on my application process.

You don’t have to have done anything in the past in Texas, somebody with the same name as you, can have a background and all they have too separate you from them is your ID info but they have to go and check the other persons data to make sure its not you.

It has happened to my dad, my wife and my self in the last 20 years counties and state agencies tossing darts at a list of same names and going that’s the one. Mine, I fixed on the phone, my dad had to get a lawyer, my wife they did not care and filed on her and I had to call them and insist they had the wrong person and two weeks later she got a letter from them saying they found the right person along with the dismissal paperwork.

So you don’t have to have done anything at all to have a background that has to be looked at... and it just slows the system down.

Mine was a child support dart that hit one day on the phone, I have no other kids than the ones I raised to adult hood, I told them, but I had to show my ID/SSN to get them off my case. And I am sure that record has popped up here in this background check just due to the same name hit so they have to go check ID info on that persons record again, to make sure it is not me...so that’s time lost there.

Hang in there it will all come out in the wash in time ..A :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: LONG :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: LONG :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: Time.

This info was given to me by a lady named Judy, who normally handles revocations but has been tasked to handle new applicants and renewals as well.

For your sake, I hope she doesn't have to deal with your license again in the future. :biggrinjester:

Congratulations and enjoy the new privilege!
