Checking out my credit card statement, I found a charge from a company that I had never heard of: Office Development, tel. 877 257 8146. It turns out this is a widespread scam.

Credit card company was very nice about it.

This happened to me three weeks ago. They hit me for over $800. The Bank immediately returned my funds. They started out making very small purchases like $1.50 or so, then higher priced items. They believe my card was copied from paying at a gas pump.

There was a scam some years ago that had someone billing to random credit card numbers. It was always very small amounts to avoid attention. After they had a listing of "valid" card numbers, they went after larger amounts.

Check every statement and question every charge.

I had something similar happen to my debit card. I read in the paper that there was a group that locally drove around with a laptop with wireless network card & hack into stores wireless networks & steal CC and debit information. Names like TJ max, DSW, Barnes & Noble,Sports Authority were some that didn't have enough security to defeat them.

Thanks for posting. Anyone that uses debit or credit for gas (that's many of us) should watch for this kind of thing.

Beside not using the card at gas stations, is there any known way to tell if an additional "card reader" is on a gas pump? IT people please respond!
