FINGER PRINTS

Does anyone know why the state is not using electronic submission of finger prints. I thought that was the whole purpose of the
FAST fingeer print system.

"The current methodology requiring submission of paper fingerprint cards, although effective, is centralized and may take several days to process. To overcome these problems, DPS released for bid a Request For Proposal (RFP) to deploy applicant fingerprinting service centers throughout Texas. To secure the best value for the state, the RFP declared the successful vendor as the only source of electronic submission[/b] for Texas fingerprint-based applicant criminal history checks. L-1 Solutions was selected as the vendor to implement the Fingerprint Applicant Services of Texas (FAST) and is working closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide convenient applicant fingerprinting services throughout the state. "

This is from the FBI criminal justice system web site. " The IAFIS provides automated fingerprint search capabilities, latent searching capability, electronic image storage, and electronic exchange of fingerprints and responses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As a result of submitting fingerprints electronically, agencies receive electronic responses to criminal ten-print fingerprint submissions within two hours and within 24 hours for civil fingerprint submissions. "

I don’t know, but would take a guess at it being they have yet to put a system in place to handle the
civil fingerprint submissions
with out interfering with the operations of the
criminal ten-print fingerprint submissions
system DPS has in place now for its law enforcement needs.

and/or the FBI want the paper cards if the power goes out. They seem to be the ones rejecting them. "rlol"

I have no clue.... ;-)

Probably the same sort of reasoning behind requiring new prints at every renewal.
