If you're going to the Wings over Houston show at Ellington Field, I belive that it is an Air Force, NASA facility and firearms are not permitted. :patriot:

If you are going to the Air Show at Lackland AFB, you will be on base and there for unable to carry....Bag searches, wands and no coolers, etc. There will be TONS of armed AF Cops (to include the Emergency Services Team on standby REAL CLOSE). Last time it was at lackland they had all the OFF personnel working (like 20 AF Cops, BCSO and SAPD all over the place). I wouldnt recommend leaving it in your car either as the parking is on the Port Authority of SA (not the best part of SA, if you know what I mean). I actually have been shot at in a AF Patrol Car and Security at Boeing has been targeted on a few occasions.

I worked the Lackland Air Show a few times as the SF personnel at Randolph AFB augmented them. You can guarantee their will be a lot of cops around that place on those two days. Now that I have retired, I stay away from those types of things. Air shows were never anything I couldn't live without but, although I work on Lackland, I hate to be in that area unless I have to be.

This was discussed last year http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... &sk=t&sd=a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Ellington Field is owned by the City of Houston, but there are other facilities there, so that can play into the equation (Federal, etc.) Also, apparently someone called last year and they were treating the area as a 'secure area' and asking if they have any weapons, etc. Never saw a post afterward if anyone went and how the screening was for entrance.

I logged on this evening to post a question about the air show in San Antonio next weekend. I realize it is at Lackland AFB and therefore off-limits to carry, but I was hoping to glean some information about the parking situation and whether I can leave my sidearm in the car (hopefully) or if I need to leave it at home entirely ( ack! ).

We used to go (every year)...Got to have a big day (BBQ, private restroom facilities, got to meet most of the demo pilots) off to the left of "show center" at the big NASA hanger, but those days are gone...

We now sit on our roof about 3 miles from Ellington if we want to watch...Our foliage has been blown away by a little storm a few weeks ago...So the view is pretty good... ;-)

As far as the issue of carry...Most are right on...The security checkpoint getting into the static display and airshow area in general is off-limits obviously...Why??? Well...Ya know...

We saw the T-Birds doing there thing a little while ago...Very impressive, but I'm a Navy man, and the Blue Angels still rock in my opinion...

It would greatly be at your OWN RISK, If I was at Lackland I would have to be working either way so it would be a mute point for me. There will be BCSO/SAPD on foot but there primary focus will be the crowds at the event, not at the parking....much like Fiesta (If you have ever been there).

Edit: It is one of those Darned if you do, Darned if you don't situations-- Rereading my post is like... Wow, that is exactly where I WOULD WANT to have it. So I digress, if you want to have it in your car, By all means......protect it/hide it, something.

Hey the airshow was great this year!! Got to see the p-38 fly. It was frozen in ice in parts then brought up and put together. I ended up talking to one of the jeep reenactor guys and they all had m-1 garands and such on there jeeps. I got to talking to a guy and he popped his m-1 carbine off the hood and let me hold it and check it out. It looked brand new, was a remington typewriter. Pretty interesting, nice people too. My friend was shocked they let me handle a rifle on an airbase. :coolgleamA:
