Long time, no posting here.

Anyway, I know in the Texas chl classes there's the range test and then the written. But, I heard there's no shooting section in the Utah class. So my question is, what exactly is done in the Utah class?

I'm not too long from taking the TX chl class, but I know things in Austin aren't running very smoothly, so it'll take a while to recieve that. I've really been thinking about this Utah permit as a temporary permit until I recieve the TX. I've searched and searched, but I still have no clue as to what's done in the class. Can one of you knowledgeful chlers insight me? Thanks in advance!

The class takes about 4 hours or so. It covers Utah laws and then the instructor will cover the Texas laws for you. Finger prints and photo. I don't remember the cost, but it is a lot less than Texas. No shooting involved in the class. I am sure one of the Utah instructors can give you some more in the AM.

Thanks, sounds good.

Yeah, I'll log in tomorrow after work to see further information.

Again, thanks.

I took the Utah CFP class from http://www.crossfire-training.com in Roanoak earlier this month. The price was $70 for the class, and Utah will charge you $65.25 for the license.

Linda and Marty are really cool. I was dreading sitting in a 'classroom' for 4 hours, but honestly, the time flew buy.

I am ineligible for the Texas permit until next year because of a Class B conviction, but Utah only requires it to be 3 years since, so I can legally carry in Texas until then with the card from Utah.

Since you are in Houston, Charles is in your neck of the woods. I took the class he offered in Austin over the summer, and it was top notch.

That sounds great! Now to find time though. Right now work is really busy with the holidays coming up and all, but I will definately find the time some time down the line. I want to do this class some time in the very near future. Maybe I can talk to him about possible dates, if there's enough people for a class. Thanks for the info.

The great thing is that Utah is only about 4 hours. It can be done in an evening. The price is right, too.

Yeah, I like that it's only 4 hours compared to the 10 hours of the Texas class. Even though I'll still be going for my Texas chl afterwards, the Utah is good for starters. The price is amazing!

In my class [Charles Cotton at PSC] there was about an hour of time [lecture] devoted to gun handling. Charles brought in a variety of different types of handguns and demonstrated how to handle them and compared their unique safety features. There was no range qualification required.

I don't recall covering Texas laws, but I think everyone in the class had their Texas CHL. I might add that there are some major differences in the laws between Utah and Texas. Some of the differences were discussed in class, but anyone getting a Utah license should carefully study Texas CHL and Deadly Force laws if they are going to carry in Texas. I was really surprised at the difference in laws for carrying in churches, schools and bars.
