My sons' Pediatrician!

I've been hearing you folks for some time talking about the intrusive questions that pediatricians and GP's have asked regarding firearms that seem to have no bearing on the health of their patients, and I always thought, "That's never happened to me. I've even carried into my and my sons' doctors' offices before. No one noticed, and no one has ever asked about guns or anything related."
Until this morning. I took my older son in because he hasn't been feeling well (bronchitis), and talked to the doctor about getting a flu shot, as well. I made a crack about getting my son shot, but then said, "No, the only shooting that needs to be done is at the range when we go together." The doctor turned to me, looked me in the eyes and asked, "Do you have a CHL?"
I thought for a moment and decided to be honest, "Yes, Sir, I do."
His response was, "So do I. At least as of a few days ago. How long have you had yours?"
We talked for a little bit about why we felt we needed to get our CHL's, but I feel better than ever about my sons' pediatrician!

The doctor's office I used to go to hung up a huge, very compliant 30.06 sign. I now have a new doctor.

I probably wouldn't carry to the doctor's office just because I'm self-conscious about the nurse telling me that I've gained 3 pounds(all of it at 2 o'clock)

As I was a little nervous about his asking if I had a CHL to begin with (thinking about all the intrusive questions others have reported), I never thought to ask him. I also would have considered it rude to do so to anyone I am not very good friends with. Just my opinion, of course.

Not to steal attention from a great post, but I had an equally good doctors visit last week.
The other day I had an unexpected visit to my doctor's office. They wanted to run an EKG, but I was carrying in my shoulder holster under my shirt. I was afraid that was coming, so I had disarmed in the car previous to going in, but had to leave the shoulder hoster in place. In the EKG room, I removed my dress shirt, then my holster, then my tshirt which I promptly put over my holster which I had placed on a chair. The guy doing the EKG has his back to me during this, so I thought I got away with it. After the EKG, he leaves the room and I put on my Tshirt, then my shoulder holster............then doc walks in to talk about the results! We were standing face to face, me with shoulder holster, and she didn't say or have any signals of displeasure at my shoulder holster. She did have a quick glance at the magazine holder part of the holster, but never looked at the handgun side. If she had looked, she would have noticed I didn't have it on me, but it seems that it wouldn't have been a problem anyway. We talked several minutes face to face, nothing said about holster.
Good news, since I'll be having a planned visit this week. I'm curious though, is there an exception to failure to conceal in a doctors office during a visit?

In your case, there is no law requiring you to conceal an empty holster!

In the case where you aren't expecting something that will require you to uncover your CCW, so you carry into your (unposted) doctor's office, and have to expose your weapon, I think you should ask for some privacy as you change and again as you re-dress. Hide your CCW in the clothes you take off and never let it out of your sight. And stand close enough to the door that you can block it from being opened until you're concealed again. Or, either 1) pocket carry or 2) make an excuse to go to your car to secure your CCW.
The real question is will your doctor freak out and call the cops and will the cops then freak out and arrest you if your CCW is discovered.
IMHO and IANAL.

+1 for Pocket Carry.
Thankfully I have a Ruger LCP for that purpose.

I generally don't carry into my doctor's office, but it has nothing to do with his view of things (which is sort of libertarian), or social awkwardness or anything like that. I just don't want to weigh the pistol (because I'm always trying to cheat the scale), and I'm not about to unholster before getting on the scale - which is located in a hallway. Since I don't go to my doctor's every day, it's not that big of an imposition for me.

I have to go in for my yearly physical tomorrow...
I'm sure you know what that entails, so I am just going to leave my carry pistol in my truck. I installed a save just for this kind of situations.

My daughter's Pediatrician is a gun nut too. We had been using him for a few months, when I ran into him at the Dallas Market Hall gunshow. He has an Ak on one shoulder, an AR on the other. He seemed quite surprised to run into me, but hey, we are all in good company at the gunshow!
