According to the article linked below, in 2007, the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification failed to revoke the CWPs of many people who had been convicted of felonies or DWI.

The problem was cleared when BCI hired additional employees to process CWPs.

In 2006, 167 CWPs were revoked or suspended. The number jumped to 568 in 2007.

This article also mentions that BCI checks the criminal records of Utah residents daily, and non-residents quarterly.

Long delays in issuing or renewing CWPs have also been cleared.

The recent surge in applications resulted in a surplus of about a quarter million dollars for the agency.
