My son has a need for Traffic Ticket Lawyer

This isn't exactly CHL but...

A couple of years ago (or maybe more) someone on this message board mentioned a 'great' traffic ticket lawyer here in Houston.

I have misplaced his name.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

My wife has used this firm several times. They did a great job.

They fixed the ticket without a court appearance or any other face-to-face meeting. It cost about $300 for a ticket that carried a $200 fine.

I went with David Spreecher on the recommendation of several friends (also attorneys).

Let me just say that it was the worst experience I've ever had, and I was incredibly disappointed with the process they use. I would NEVER recommend anyone do that. It's a joke.

If you were speeding, ran a stop sign, or whatever you are better off paying the fine or taking defensive driving. Especially if you are in Harris County. Traffic court/Traffic Attorneys are a joke, and there are much better things you can do with you time and money. I'm getting upset just typing this so I'm going to stop now before it ruins another day. What a waste.

Taking defensive driving is better for the first one but after that paying for a lawyer is much cheaper than the insurance rate increase.

I'm going to speak in favor of getting a lawyer every time.

At one time, traffic tickets were no big deal. You went to court, stood around for a couple of hours, looked apologetic in front of the judge, and he let you off with court cost, which was something like $25 (granted, that was a day's pay for me at the time).

Now, you're out a couple of hundred dollars on the first ticket. You may have to pay for and spend time attending defensive driving. The standing around and looking apologetic is still obligatory.

But if you get a second ticket, and it's one that an attorney can't fix (which is more difficult since you got the first), you could be looking at several hundred to over $1,000 over the next few years.

I don't know what happened to CHLSteve. I would be interested in hearing it. But ticket attorneys do what you pay them for most of the time.

The State of Texas has some new fees.

One that caught my eye was driving with out insurance.
The fee is $250 per year for 3 years.
That's a $750 fee.

I did some research using google and discovered that fee. AND I found a news article quoting a state senator saying people aren't paying the fees.
Apparently they got the State of Texas fees for getting tickets high enough that Texans are learning to live with out a drivers license.

Meanwhile the illegals are still driving around with no license and no insurance.

I'm starting to think Gerald Celente may be right and maybe it's the wakeup call Americans need to fix this country.

Driving without insurance is not a ticket that can be fixed unless you go to court and prove that you now have insurance.

Also, in most jurisdictions, you get your vehicle towed. That costs another couple of hundred dollars.

It's been a few years but my wife reminded me this afternoon:

The lady that ran into my son and totaled his (less than a year old) 2001 pickup did not have insurance.
My son and my wife went to court for her trial.
The fine was minimal and 'she did not have her current insurance information with her'.



On the other hand
Car insurance isn't my son's problem
He has had insurance every day since he started learning to drive.
(Boy, is my checkbook tired!)

He needs a traffic ticket lawyer.

None were the one I remembered but...

What you pay an attorney to do, you can almost do yourself. I took the knowledge that I knew from my Police Doppler RADAR class and fought a ticket given to me by a Bexar County Dep. Only had to go to court twice, once to plead guilty and once to conference with the ADA handing traffic that day. We went back and forth for a little while. It ended with me paying a $30 fine, court costs of $78 and got 90 days differred adjudicaton (after 90 days w/o another ticket it got dismissed). $108 cost me about 4 hours of time, $3 dollars in parking and no insurance increase or reflection on record. Worth it for me since I plan on applying to HPD in the next few months.
